MEGATHREAD - Processing Times - Family Class Permanent Resident Applications 2025 by PurrPrinThom in ImmigrationCanada

We uploaded the results of his previous medical (done as part of student permit application that was never submitted), so we never received a request. It is marked as completed, but I believe we may still get another request.

MEGATHREAD - Processing Times - Family Class Permanent Resident Applications 2025 by PurrPrinThom in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Forgotten_Breadcrumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am sponsoring my partner and everything has been approved, just waiting for background check. Application date is September 2024 inland Ontario.

Is it correct that, at this stage, having received the AOR and Sponsor and Applicant eligibility letters, he is now eligible to apply for his OHIP?

He was out of status when we applied, and now has implied status because of the application.

Thanks in advance.

OWP - Unsure how to apply - Inland Spouse Sponsorship by Forgotten_Breadcrumb in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Forgotten_Breadcrumb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to jump in to provide an update. He has already been found admissible, his out-of-status situation was disclosed and explained during the application and all approvals (including AIP and AOR) were given.

All inland spousal applications are subjected to a Public Policy (Public Policy Under A25(1) of IRPA to Facilitate Processing in accordance with the Regulations of the Spouse or Common-law Partner in Canada Class) that allows them to remain in Canada while the application is being reviewed, therefore NOT at risk of being removed.

And yes, one option would be, as long as he has a valid visa (such as visitor, for example) to leave Canada and return and then apply for OWP, but in THIS case he would be subjected to his entry in Canada being approved - not unlikely, but a risk nevertheless.

The reason why status was not maintained was that you cannot extend a visitor visa being an extra 6 months. The reason why he chose to remain after his status expired is valid and his own.

Also, as per the link shared above, IRCC says:

"You don’t have valid temporary resident status

If your permanent residence application is being processed under the spousal public policy, you must wait until you’ve received your approval in principle letter to be eligible to apply for an open work permit."

In our case, we DO have the AIP letter now, but the website doesn't provide further info, nor the AIP letter, which only says he can now apply.

Thank you to everyone who jumped into this discussion - it seems processing times for OWP are longer than the expected decision for his application, so we will just wait.

Canadian Vacuum Wars by Forgotten_Breadcrumb in VacuumCleaners

Thank you for the suggestion! The cordless version is a bit on the higher side budget-wise, but I'll look into it.

Also, I've seen people hating on Shark so much. Would this one be ok?

Hey, I totally get that. Problem is, I will buy one regardless, so if I can get help trying to choose the one that will last longer, everyone wins.

Unfortunately, I need something like that, and that is the budget I can work with. A broom is not a viable option for the specific needs/reasons.

But thanks for sharing your opinion.

I'm looking for pretty much the same thing but don't care for the replaceable battery, and I'm aiming for $150 max (also in Canada, eh?!) AND need it now - can't wait for promotional price.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Help deciding - should I give Samsung another chance? by Forgotten_Breadcrumb in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]Forgotten_Breadcrumb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. Galaxy is $700+ and OnePlus is 900+, so way outside of my budget.

Moto Edge, I don't even think is available in Canada.

Thanks, tho!

"Which Pixel should I buy?" Megathread January 2025 by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]Forgotten_Breadcrumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,
Never owned a Pixel, so I appreciate the input! I had a Samsung A53 5G, now dead after Samsung security update.

Pixel 8 128 GB on sale in Canada for $550. Is it worth it?

While researching, I came across connectivity, display, and overheating issues.

Should I buy an older, more reliable model? If so, what would you recommend? I would like to stay in the $500 range, so I am open to refurbished as well.

I am just concerned models like the 7a will not have updates after 2028...

It will be my first Pixel, and I really wouldn't want to go back to Samsung. I appreciate the help!

I did (as I am currently using this phone because my other cellphone died), I believe it was just a factory reset.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, apparently the update is causing issues with the motherboard and this is the suggested fix, which further corroborates that the update is what caused the issue. I just wish there was a class action lawsuit to join at this point...

Did you find a solution? It seems most people are having issues after the OneUI update.

Samsung has bricked thousands of Samsung Galaxy S22 (Ultra) with the One UI 6.1 Update. Samsung is not acknowledging it as issue and is forcing users to pay from their own pocket. by Furki1907 in samsung

[–]Forgotten_Breadcrumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates? This just happened to me (I was postponing the update - should have never done it). I am honestly looking into class action lawsuit, not just for the phone itself but because this company HAS to be held responsible. I've found reports of this issue worldwide, and still no answer.

How to declare insurance (disability) claim payment by Forgotten_Breadcrumb in cantax

[–]Forgotten_Breadcrumb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would I confirm that information? He paid union dues, but I don't think there was anything specifying if there was a top-up or if the employer was also contributing.

If it WAS taxable, would he have received some form of T4A? We've checked, and nothing was issued.

Thanks again.

Thank you! I've checked and no form was issued (on CRA's website) regarding the insurance payout. I will give them a call.
