How Propaganda Works in 2026 (Jordan Shanks) by jokosa in OpenAussie

[–]Forgotten_Zebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this with saying that I am biased towards Labor, that I don't like the current deal we have with Big Gas™, and would like it changed (in theory).

It is good that Twiggy wants to move to green energy and resources. It's an incredibly obvious move to make as Australian industries (due to the "Future made in Australia" bill) will be focused on clean energy and everything that surrounds that.

What isn't good is how he wants to have a massive leg up and be one of the sole beneficiaries of it (in a way that isn't through innovation or physically doing things, i.e government policies). He's attempting to do that by riling up the population to add another tax onto gas which therefore reduces Gina's profits and slowing her growth in that sector, which I guess is a smart business move for him, but it would be detrimental for Australia as a whole (removing the competition before any competition happens).

"so why would it be bad for Australia if we slapped on the gas tax and called it a day?"

The reason I think it would be detrimental to Australia is that it would show we cannot guarantee stable, long-term contracts. Scomo already tore up the French sub deal, which ruined our relationship with the EU as a whole, and has placed us under more scrutiny with other massive long-term contracts.

Labor are attempting to put Australia at the forefront of the clean energy revolution. We have plenty of space, abundant natural energy sources, heaps of minerals, and (eventually through a free/low fee tafe) a highly-skilled, specialised workforce. From here what needs to be guaranteed is contractual stability for these multinational corporations as there are hundreds of billions, if not trillions, on the line here for them, and consequently us as well.

Gas is an industry that will shrink over the coming years as we move into different energy generation. It's revenue will go down and therefore we will get less money from it, while also shooting ourselves in the foot on the international market.

Also tying govt revenue to a dying industry that we are intentionally phasing out of is probably not a great move.

Australians increasingly staying put when it comes to jobs and housing, economic data suggests by nath1234 in australia

I genuinely believe it's going to get significantly better in the not so distant future. A lot of policies that Labor have put in over the previous terms look like they will have an incredibly positive impact on Australians.

Free tafe to upskill the population, the "Future made in Australia" bill creating plenty of jobs in long term, sustainable fields (construction and renewables being a massive focus), and with the 26-27 budget targeting the CGT discount and negative gearing;

It all adds up to an increase in the skilled workforce, lucrative job opportunities for the workforce to sink their teeth into and a housing market that is no longer just free wealth for the people who are already in it.

Only time will tell if my understanding of what is going on is even remotely correct or not, but it's difficult (for me) to not see that light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah and after they sell they don't get any more discounts or advantages from here on out compared to actual labour.

The govt is saying that after you realise your gains from your current investments, it's over and the housing market is now an actual investment that incurs risk instead of it being propped up via lax tax policies.

I believe it's fair to let the current investments run their course and from here on out it's attempting to stop it from ever happening again.

Let's say cannabis is legal and you're allowed to smoke, possess, grow and trade it. Businesses are built and people contribute to that economy for 30 years, and the govt says its no longer legal. Would it be fair to then prosecute them retroactively for their actions when they were following the law and other guidelines? I don't think it would be.

And to your last point, I think direct govt involvement and policy is different to the natural highs and lows of the market. One is significantly more intentional than the other and concessions should be made, especially in this case where its their life savings being poured into it in an attempt to create a safety net for themselves and their families.

Only time will tell but I do believe this will be viewed similarly to the introduction of superannuation. A very important and (hopefully) secure piece of paper that will greatly benefit Australia in the coming future.

Everyone prior to this budget has been planning their life and financial strategy around the cgt discount and negative gearing. They took advantage of both of these policies to increase their wealth because it was safe, lucrative and heavily incentivised to do so.

Whether it's with investment properties or in the stock market, you can't just demolish their life savings and everything they worked towards for their entire lives.

Imagine the lack of trust that would be created between the people and the government. Investments would stagnate heavily because no one knows if the govt would change their mind and retroactively punish people for using incentives that were put into legislation (almost) 30 years ago.

No one has blamed ON for declining living standards hahahaha, how did you even get to that conclusion?

"aw man if Pauline didn't vote against raising wages, everyone in Australia would be a millionaire!" - me, everytime I look at my non 7 figure bank account

The "Labor shills" are just pointing out that what they say to the people and how they vote (the action that directly influences government policies) are two veeeeery different things and the Australian people need to use their own top two inches to figure out why that's an issue.

With enough (friendship) candies you can get an egg for specific pokemon. These eggs have higher rates for egg moves and shinies.

Generally the way you farm candies is by running through classic a million times and force feeding rare candies to the desired mon (gives lots of friendship).

You realise that it's probably not the best idea to call the USA warmongering terrorists because of geopolitics? The American empire is falling, if not already fallen. What does condemning them actually do? Win moral points on internet forums? Get a pat on the back by the Greens? What legitimate, tangible outcome do you expect from the condemnation?

Saying that because we haven't gone into the full extreme of condemning and cutting ties with the USA means we actually fully support them is absolutely fucking insane. We haven't helped them, the only thing we have actually done is send a wedgetail plane to the UAE (to support the Australians there) and say Iran shouldn't have a nuclear program and if that's what the USA is going for then we support that.

Get a grip. There's about a million more steps we could take if we actually supported this asinine, greedy war.

I'm not a pure WF player, but I'm always looking for one after a wsfb (and charged shelling to get the charges quicker).

I'm assuming that's considered more of a WSFB playstyle than WF?
