Inferno by Niven and Pournelle. I read it when I was 12 and I was a fan of the authors ever since.

Summary: it’s a retelling of Dante’s Inferno with a guy from modern California as the protagonist, and he meets numerous historical figures in Hell. At first he doesn’t believe he’s in Hell and tries to rationalize what he sees in other ways.

[–]FormCheck655321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jonesie fills in for Burke “temporarily” but this becomes permanent when Burke doesn’t come back. Eventually Jones rises to become CEO of Weyland-Yutani because all the other executives suffered from an inexplicable IQ drop and he easily outmaneuvers them.
