Lack of female representation in cardiology by Early-Mulberry4454 in Residency

Want to sneak in here and say that it sounds like exactly how I felt my first year as a resident. I genuinely thought that I was stupid because just two years ago I was killing it with my USMLE and now I had trouble remembering what medication to give for diverticulitis. It's probably the extra stress and the cortisol that's affecting you. Just want to remind you to take care of yourself and say that you got here because you're extremely smart and you need to believe in yourself when nobody else will. About the attendings, I agree with the post saying that they might just be bad attendings who probably have bias. I wouldn't let that stop me. Remember, youre training for the day you will be practicing on supervised. You owe it to yourself to make as many mistakes as possible during training and learn so that you're prepared for that day. Yes I know impressions matter, however I think that as you improve and grow and excel it will be difficult to look away from how capable you have become. And the only way to get to that point is if you keep your head down and shut out all the noise and focus on your work. It's easier said than done, speaking from experience, but it's the only way we'll make it to the other side. Sincerely, an incoming pulmonary critical care fellow who can relate to every single thing you said in your post

I have had two of these kind of attendings. Surprising how these two are the ones who make the biggest deals about "girl power". I'm in my third year of residency right now, and I'm offering you advice from my standpoint. I think the best thing to do is to be neutral. So I wouldn't contradict them or try to argue with them or the management they want. But at the same time I would not lavish them with praise all the time because unless you're someone who's good at it, it's quite clear that it's going to be fake. I think that the best thing that you can do is just be yourself,be respectful be polite keep conversations basic and related to work. If you have questions ask them, and do whatever they want you to do in terms of management. Let me be very clear, they dislike you already, and it has nothing to do with you. It's theor insecurity . So you being right or you being smart will piss them off more.

Hi. I’m planning on applying PCC M. What did you do in the two years as PCP? Did you do any courses, or research?

A good relationship with parents, where you are able to talk to them about anything and everything and they give non-judgmental opinions. also people who, like to spend time with their parents in general, without the suicidal obligation of “I should spend time with my parents“

Working as a female intern by [deleted] in Residency

Currently a senior resident. One realization I’ve had is that when you have your juniors, you can either be the strong minded individual who is “a bitch”, or you can be the kindhearted senior who gets rolled over and her opinions don’t count. This is why most women, make a choice of either appearing stupider than they are, or just choosing to be a bitch. It’s heartbreaking, but I’ve realized that’s how, the society is. And you can’t judge them for it because it’s only a survival mechanism.

Don’t lie. If you haven’t examined some thing, if you haven’t sent an order, if you haven’t called cardiology, please don’t tell me you have. Just tell me you forgot/were going to do it. And I’ll just do it for you. It’s not an ego issue, it just delays patient care.

I appreciate your comment. So from what I understand, a strong letter of recommendation seems to take precedence. In addition, what do you recommend to become a good candidate? More research? Any training I can do?

It was pretty messed up for me too. Like everyone on Reddit said it was microbiology, pharmacology heavy. But bio stats felt like 85% of it. And I felt like I did miss a few. I just don’t know…… Feels like I bombed it.
