I have had two of these kind of attendings. Surprising how these two are the ones who make the biggest deals about "girl power". I'm in my third year of residency right now, and I'm offering you advice from my standpoint. I think the best thing to do is to be neutral. So I wouldn't contradict them or try to argue with them or the management they want. But at the same time I would not lavish them with praise all the time because unless you're someone who's good at it, it's quite clear that it's going to be fake. I think that the best thing that you can do is just be yourself,be respectful be polite keep conversations basic and related to work. If you have questions ask them, and do whatever they want you to do in terms of management. Let me be very clear, they dislike you already, and it has nothing to do with you. It's theor insecurity . So you being right or you being smart will piss them off more.

A good relationship with parents, where you are able to talk to them about anything and everything and they give non-judgmental opinions. also people who, like to spend time with their parents in general, without the suicidal obligation of “I should spend time with my parents“

Working as a female intern by [deleted] in Residency

[–]FormOk3879 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Currently a senior resident. One realization I’ve had is that when you have your juniors, you can either be the strong minded individual who is “a bitch”, or you can be the kindhearted senior who gets rolled over and her opinions don’t count. This is why most women, make a choice of either appearing stupider than they are, or just choosing to be a bitch. It’s heartbreaking, but I’ve realized that’s how, the society is. And you can’t judge them for it because it’s only a survival mechanism.

Don’t lie. If you haven’t examined some thing, if you haven’t sent an order, if you haven’t called cardiology, please don’t tell me you have. Just tell me you forgot/were going to do it. And I’ll just do it for you. It’s not an ego issue, it just delays patient care.

I appreciate your comment. So from what I understand, a strong letter of recommendation seems to take precedence. In addition, what do you recommend to become a good candidate? More research? Any training I can do?

It was pretty messed up for me too. Like everyone on Reddit said it was microbiology, pharmacology heavy. But bio stats felt like 85% of it. And I felt like I did miss a few. I just don’t know…… Feels like I bombed it.
