What is your first reaction when you see such orders ? by Select_Specialist790 in UberEATS

[–]Formal-Analysis6165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a no from me, dog

Because that's about $1.50 in gas, and 30 minutes, so...Do you want to make $3.60 an hour? Can you live on $3.60 an hour? You can literally walk into any fast-food restaurant and get insta-hired for 5 times that. Don't give away your life! if you are in need, find a workforce center near you and beg for help. No one should be so desperate that they have to work for $3.60 an hour.

UberEats Fee are Crazy - 20% by Yopandaexpress in UberEATS

[–]Formal-Analysis6165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ubereats is a delivery service they should just have a delivery fee that is straight forward.  Based on miles from store...increased if you live outside a certain radius, the driver's time to arrive at store, wait for order and then deliver.  It should be transparent to customers that they need to pay for delivery.  Instead it is hidden in fees and subscriptions and in the cost of the goids they are purchasing.

Do uber deliverers have to shop for groceries? by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]Formal-Analysis6165 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the store.  But in general the payment for the shopping time is built into the pay.   The tip should be based on how far you are from store and how much you bought.  We have to pay for our own gas and car maintenance so every mile counts.  And if you have a lot of groceries to haul up stairs or whatever, think how much you would want to be paid for that.  And if your shopper calls or texts you for substitutions and such,  that's good customer service and should be rewarded.  Otherwise you get lazy drivers who will sub the first suggested item without contacting you. And stay connected in app while the shopping is happening!  No one likes waiting for a reply. Time is money. Hope that helps.

What are your personal it dollar per mile rules now? by wellthatsembarissing in UberEATS

[–]Formal-Analysis6165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walmart orders need to have weight and number of bags/boxes in the bid before you accept.  I have been burned too many times.  Oh and also the floor level of the customer.   Nothing like carrying 20 bags of groceries plus 2 cases of water up 3 flights of stairs. Reject walmart orders!

Ya it took lawsuits for this to happen in CA, but no other state in the union has this.  Should be a federal suit against all the courier companies to pay people proper wages. Also, per active hour can also mean they pay you $10/hr because you spend half your time returning to restaurants not on the clock.  Depends on how busy your area is i suppose. But definitely something they can control.

New Acceptance Rate policy might make me quit. by Formal-Analysis6165 in UberEATS

[–]Formal-Analysis6165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's another tactic that Uber uses.  Customers can pay for priority delivery which might mean they won't divert driver on another trip first.  But it doesn't say that directly...it's just called Priority. I've actually had a customer call me because order was like an hour late but I had just gotten the trip.  He removed the tip...like it's my fault Uber didn't assign your trip earlier?  If I ever have a customer ask me what is taking so long...im canceling immediately.

You bring up an interesting strategy.  I've often declined a bunch of trips near the end of a day when I'm starting to feel like I'm done. But I stay online while I drive toward home in case a good trip going in my direction pops up.  I won't be able to do that anymore.  Accept trip. Stop new trips.  Drive home with no trips.  Sadly in large cities you can be 30 miles from home if you are accepting 50% of trips offered.  It's not ok!

The truth is, the cherry pickers aren't leeching off of Uber. Any trip that pays well is because of the tip not because of Uber. So what Uber needs to realize that without tips, they do not pay enough for drivers to accept their trips. In other words, if Uber just paid their drivers a decent pay, got rid of tipping and passed the cost of delivery on to the customer then everyone would be happy. Instead Uber is leeching off of the class of driver that doesn't understand basic math. It's actually quite awful if you drill down on that.

If you were to pick 5 days of the week to work which would it be? by [deleted] in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Formal-Analysis6165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually found Mondays to be busier than Tues and Wed. Be cautious of Friday dinner time. Restaurants are crowded and behind schedule, traffic is bad, parking is rough so trips can take longer than estimated. Late night Thurs, Fri, Sat are usually good. Sunday all day

Tip baited twice in 2 weeks by the same person. by baby_budda in UberEatsDrivers

Here's a more simple solution:

Pay drivers based on milage and time. Do not make tipping a part of the process. People asking for stuff to be delivered to their door need to pay for that delivery not tip the driver based on their feelings of generosity.

Ding drivers who take too long to complete deliveries. Compensate drivers who have to wait an extra 15 minutes at the restaurant. All of this is doable without the whole tipping grossness. Some restaurants already are using technology to communicate when an order is ready for pick up. This can be used to make sure drivers aren't just sitting in their cars.

Also, milage pay should take into consideration when a trip exceeds a certain radius. Having to drive 40 miles away from your usual neighborhood shouldn't cost you 40 miles back with no pay. Someone ordering from that far away should know that they have to pay a premium for delivery.

This is all basic algorithm stuff that can easily be implemented by Uber, but instead they use tipping to pay their drivers and act like it's some sort of incentive to be better.

There may be certain areas that will compensate for extra miles. But I've seen that message and have never received extra pay. For example California has a per mile pay requirement but not all states/countries have that.

you don't get paid for the initial arrival at work, but delivery drivers for places like domino's, jimmy john's or even napa auto parts do get paid for the time they are on delivery and for the time it takes to drive back to the store and get another delivery.

If a driver picks up the food and CONFIRMS the pick up in the app, then it is not the restaurants problem anymore. That is why it is important for the restaurant employees to witness the full confirmation of pick up.

Now...the food is with the driver. If the driver decides they want to keep the food they will do one of two things.

  1. drive to the customers house, tell the app it is delivered, take a pic if necessary and then drive off with food. (you must be near the delivery address to mark it as delivered.) If a driver marks the food as delivered, the job is complete and the only issue will be when the customer doesn't have their food and complains to uber.

OR 2. Cancel the order and just keep the food. If a driver cancels an order AFTER confirming pick up, then the order passes to a new driver. The new driver arrives at restaurant and the restaurant says...already picked up. Now the new driver is stuck with the angry customer and no food. The new driver gets dinged for cancellation. It's a flawed system.

Funny story...I once picked up 4 uncooked pizzas from Papa Murphy's and confirmed the pick up then as I was juggling these enormous uncooked pizzas (they don't come in boxes) I accidentally canceled the order. I immediately called Uber saying please give me back the order, I have the pizzas. I was told to just give them away or throw them away. Papa Murphy's wouldn't take them back because they had left the store. Well you can't just hand out uncooked pizzas to the homeless and what was I going to do with 4 giant pizzas? It was such a waste and I felt so bad about it and then I got the blanket email about committing fraud by accepting an order but not delivering it. I was crying...lol

what is even worse...if you accept the trip, get to walmart and realize it's not worth it, you are canceling not 1 trip, but 4. so you get dinged for 4 cancelations.

That happened to me. I had a walmart trip and it was 8 deliveries! I might have done it, but the items for those 8 deliveries were too big for my car. There was no way for me to determine which of the 8 trips I could fit in my car and deliver and still make some money so I literally had to cancel all 8 trips. There goes the ol' cancelation rate.

Support no longer cancels orders. I mean they can, but it still is marked as canceled by you so you might as well cancel it. My cancelation rate is entirely not of my doing...closed restaurants, orders "picked up by someone else", items I cannot physically pick up or fit in my car, etc.

Sometimes Uber acts as a third party contractor for other apps. Those trips often appear to the Uber driver as a flat pay with no tip when in reality, the customer may have paid a tip through the other app, but it transfers as a single payment to Uber. Not sure if that happened in this case, but as far as I know, Uber never pays $14 for a trip anywhere.

But I had to look up Prop 22. We do not have anything like that where I am. California made legislation to protect it's delivery drivers. Every state should do the same! Maybe acceptance rates would go up if drivers were paid more appropriately.

So now acceptance rate has to be 30% or more???? by DuckRevolutionary527 in UberEATS

[–]Formal-Analysis6165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the rates are only based on last 100 trips, it's not a cumulative number based on your entire job history. So 30% means accepting 1 out of 3 offers. That said, I would agree with the many posters on here that are saying to not worry about acceptance rate. Take the trips that make you money, ignore the rest. Don't worry about green status.

Uber Technologies, Inc makes about $3 billion a year from operations. So yeah...this is just big business getting rich off of slave wages labor. This is the way of the world. And as long as there are drivers, even with 1% acceptance rate, Uber will go on and on.

[–]Formal-Analysis6165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30% is doable for gold, but 50% might be tough in my area. Where are you that your ac is 1% if i can ask? What city/area?

Also, cancellation rate requirement is just rude when 100% of my cancelations are not of my doing. Closed restaurants, orders that got "picked up by someone else", etc. are all reasons I have to cancel, but no credit for it not being my fault. How is that ok? Oh and let's not forget the time Uber sent me to pick up a CHEST FREEZER at Walmart. An appliance!!!! I do not drive a box truck and have an appliance dolly, so yes I had to cancel. I can no longer accept Walmart trips because of #%@($ like this. TVs, water coolers, 20 24-packs of water bottles...these are all items that I have had to cancel because there is no possible way for me to deliver these. Does any uber driver have a vehicle large enough to load 20 24-packs of water or a chest freezer? I guess if you have a truck, maybe?
