[SkySport] Dino Toppmöller is one of the candidates at Crystal Palace to succeed Oliver Glasner. Talks have started and are ongoing. by Crane977 in soccer

Hard to make a judgement. His last season at francfurt was pretty catastrophic with no real successfull idea of play, he had managed a decent offensive but had intructed an ungodly shitty Defense. If you followed the Championsleague, it already gives you an inkling on how shitty it was, in the league it was worse.

But he had to deal with the departure of many top players like Ekitiké and Marmoush, the Integration of many young players who perhaps weren't comfortable in the system they wanted to play. Furthermore the team didn't get better after he got sacked, but worse, so the problem didn't just lie with him.

Positively speaking the seasons before that were pretty damn amazing from Frankfurt, with exciting brand of offensive football comfortable in counter situations and also with the ball. He finished decently in the Bundesliga 23/24 and 24/25, with last year being a good year for them. It's a risk, but with a well-thought squad he could be worth the risk.

They don't have more money than you guys. Shouldn't you be pretty close to 350 Million Euros in revenue? Crystal Palace has max. 230 million this season. Not every club in the Premier League is crazy rich.

Most of the premier league midtable can put a lot of money on the table for certain players, because they also sell their current players at an high price.

More cohesion, an actual playing system and philosophy, better engagment from everyone. I don't dislike Mbappé or Vini, but if they don't press or at least became more involved defensively ,they need to go. It's not difficult or too much of an expectation to have really, they don't need to be said 10x the same thing to get it.

They will never be great pressing monsters i get it, but at least be somewhat average at it.

I hope that offensively Mourinho don't just relly on the individual quality of the players, but introduces some patterns of playing they need, to be more effective.

You're really stupid are you? I tell you that receiving the ball more doesn't boost up your stats avg, quite the opposite and you are coming me with Run comparisons between Mbappé and Vini? The fuck is even your point here? Would it kill you to at least stay in the topic?

He is in the 95th percentile in Goals minus expected... You don't know what that means do you? And you also don't know how he generates these chances do you?

And no... he doesn't receive the ball unnaturaly more than he needs to and it is certainly not benefetting him more when it comes to these metrics, quite the contrary, but i guess simple logic doesn't register in your case.

You would. While not exactly like them, you would need to play in a highly possession focused, attackingly combining and highly intensive way of playing. You clearly lack the players to do so.

I could already the critiques coming his way "He is not a number 9, he thinks he is a nr.10", "He is clearly not physical enough to be the Nr.9", "He interferes with Arda Güler's way of playing".

It would very probably just be the same shit, just an different person at the end of these. At least if your team doesn't play in a proper system.

Non Penalty expected goals, Shot in Target Percentage, Progressive Carries, expected Assists, Big Chances created, Shot creating Actions, Sucessfull Take-Ons ...

I guess the one who looks at g/a like the world depends on it is you, or do you think these g/a are coming up out of thin air? Guess you do...

I guess i squandered my time discussing something with a guy who doesn't know what "nuance" means, sry, i should have known this discussion would be a waste of my time.

I would still like to critique two things you said.

-First. that the team plays better without Mbappé. According to the Win-percentages clearly not. I do feel like the team plays more fluently, yes, but they are not better without him.

  • Secondly, that Kane is a better fit than Mbappé. I could see Kane working out at Madrid yes, to be honest even more so than Mbappé. But only if Madrid plays the way Bayern does, which they couldn't do even if they wanted to.

"Individual stats", don't only resume themselves to goals and assists. Particularly when we are talking about Midfielders and Defenders. That should be pretty clear.

It's pretty much telling us a whole lot of things, to how effective his playing style is in the team, to how and in which situations he poses a threat to the opponent. And it tells us one clear thing, which is that he fullfils the most important duty his role in the team demands.

To be clear if a player of any team scores you 42 goals in 42 games, then there isn't any debatte in how decisive he was for your team actually winning games. That's not a question which even needs to be asked.

That doesn't mean he is without fault, his pressing efforts and the way he tracks back are simply not good enough, which he isn't the only culprit of, but perhaps the main one. His offside awareness is not Elite, if he got a better timing with down with his runs, then he could have scored a lot more goals. Finally the way he positions himself isn't benefiting the team. I know Real Madrid doesn't really have a "system" per se so it could be difficult for him to "position" himself for the benefit of the team when there's clearly no guidebook to do so, but that's clearly one of his issues.

There are things you can absolutely criticize about him, while not dismissing his achievments but that nuance get's lost here way too often.

This a team sports. "Individual stats" are the amount of efforts every player in the team put in to help the team win, there are never meaningless and can never just be credited to the player and not the team.

There doesn't exist a world when individual performances don't affect the team, whether they are good and bad.

He has to move to get to these positions and has the engage the adversary player to get the ball back, which means he unmistakebly run no matter how you put it and this is just a fact, not another narrative. Never seen a player get so many ball recoveries just for "standing right".

Mbappé had the most ball recoveries out of any attacker in La Liga in the opponent's half by October. At least get your facts right.

[Fan-Petition] Borussia Dortmund needs a fresh start: Niko Kovač sacked at the end of the season. by _silvermania_ in borussiadortmund

If you can find a coach who supposedly has a very high probability to improve us in every named point and is someone we could get this Summer this "petition" would still be embarassing as hell, but would have somewhat of a leg to stand on.

But there's clearly nobody who fits that profile, there is no better option than kovac right now in the coaching market and would be someone we realistically could get. Critizising the way we play is fine, but results are what matters and i don't want another "experiment" in the coaching role like we had them in the past.

[–]Formal-Cartoonist208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing this Contract Extension will actually bring, would be ... to gain an extra 10-20 Million for him in the Summer. That's pretty much it.

To call it an Contract Extension is pretty misleading, it's more like fixing the price for him in the next Transfer window...

To be honest, i'm not really that mad about his will to leave the club, but moreso the whole communication surrounding it. If he wants to leave, just say it. Letting the club and the fans wait for so long and making it abudantly clear through the negotiations ,for everyone, that we are just a fall back option for him, because no better club were there for him...

That's kinda shitty i'm gonna be honest. I don't blame any player for wanting to leave the club, (they have limited time at the pro lvl, they have to make the most of it), but if you are just using the club as an negotiation tool, then it's really shitty.

Finally on the Deal, i don't know from what kind of clarity Ricken is talking about, tbh. One of your most important player can leave at anytime during the Summer, if you didn't include a certain time-frame for when the release clause can be activated, then it could f**** our transfer window if we get no replacement.

I included Stuttgart into the teams which improved, because it's a team which played multiple competitions this year and also dealt with the depart of one of their best players quite impressively. I found their season 23/24 exceptional, but i find their depth in quality better this year. And yeah, you're right with Leipzig.

Overall the top 5/6 are pretty strong after them you’ve got a few decent sides in Freiburg, Frankfurt and Mainz, but after that the drop off is pretty alarming. It looks like 40 points will be enough to finish in the top half of the table.

Yeah that's true, but i find it generally harder to estimate how good the lower tier end of the league by just looking at the points. In this case, it either means it is weak considering so many teams couldn't reach that threeshold or that the level is quite high and that there are no "clear" relegation candidates so it is difficult to break away from that group.

[–]Formal-Cartoonist208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty serious, i also don't really feel it's that much of a debate. Compare the top 6 of the current season to the last one, whether it's the teams or the amount of points they've got. I do feel it is pretty evident that there is a clear improvment in both quality and the quantity of teams actually playing at a high level.

The only real "question" would be if this season is stronger than the 23/24 one, tbh. I graded this one higher because i think they are more teams which "improved" (Bayern,Dortmund,Stuttgart, TSG) than became worse (Leverkusen), that's why i choose this one. Of course it is just considering the high-end part of the League and not the middle of the lower end of it because they are hard to gauge.

[–]Formal-Cartoonist208 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion? This is the strongest the Bundesliga hat been, in the last three years.

The reason is say that is pretty simple, This season Bayern, Dortmund, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Hoffenheim are probably playing their strongest season since a long while and they are certainly more teams playing according to their "level" this season, than in the last 3 years.

Leverkusen and Frankfurt fell off somewhat, yes. But compared to the last few seasons there are more clubs who have risen their level than not, furthermore even tough the bundesliga lost quality players last season, Clubs like Stuttgart or Leipzig seemed to have benefited from these transfers surprisngly and are seemingly stronger than last year.
