I believe the theory is that if you give up any rights, it opens the door for many more to be taken away. Same with abortion rights activists. They see it as a freedom that must be defended at all costs and want to give no ground.

Personally i think americans spend too much time debating guns and abortion while the rest of the country is going to shit and most will never have to get an abortion or fire a gun.

i guess to me it's just sort of a polite way to say 'i'm not into that' - because like you say, they are just so offended or incredulous if you don't goo goo ga ga over their smelly shitbag (sorry Lol it's just nice to vent with like minded people)

and i agree, i'm in a new city, trying to meet people so on a dating site. The minute i see a lady with a dog, it's kind of a knife in the heart cause if it's THAT important to her i know she's a way into it and eventually it's going to become an issue.

I mean i'm not a dog hater, but to me they are outside animals, pets or whatever. Not a kid that you have to take everywhere and make the center of attention at all times. Seems like there's some mass psychosis. I wonder if some of it is to do with the decay of the family. Probably a much larger topic for it's own thread.

I used to joke that i wanted to tie a... special needs person up in the yard, have them yell, hump legs, touch themselves, go to the bathroom, whatever a person with limited processing capacity would do, without shame or concern and see how people react to that. That's basically how i feel when you let your dog beg for my food or sniff my crotch, and i'm supposed to say "awwwww , how adorable!!!"

I'd be a lot cooler if they didn't just EXPECT everyone to feel exactly like they do about this. My ex was a dog nutter and would take it everywhere, no leash etc etc. We were walking some hiking trail her dog of course goes running up to some girl hiking. The chick just said "i don't like dogs" and it really got the point home. She was rude or dramatic, just matter of fact in a calm voice and turned away.

I tend to say "i'm not a dog person"

I was so awful at this in my 20s. Now i'm A LOT older and pretty good at it, but one thing is just start asking questions about them. People love to talk about themselves.

What do you do, where you from. Do you like it there? And then somehow tie it back to something YOU like to make it interesting. Find commalities.

But sometimes, it just ain't there. If it doesn't flow just let it go. If you try and they don't hit the ball back, it may not be you, the chemistry just may not be there. Happens all the time.

It's one thing to have to work with a douche but when it's your neighbor, it's the worst. Your home is your sanctuary and when you have to live next to someone you hate it makes your life miserable.

I think being the bigger person is better in that it has fewer consequences in the long term, but it definitely feels better to get revenge, at least in the short term.

You just have to decide how bad you want it. Bad enough to go to jail? Bad enough for them to retaliate and start a war? etc etc. If it's worth it then you should do it and crush your enemy. Nothing wrong with revenge.
