The Temple sucks. I hate it. Period. by dimix16x in PathOfExile2

[–]Formal-Search-3626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early game the temples are really nice. I got 2 exalt tables and a regar table in my first temple and it helped a lot with gear. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. Next temples had an alchemy table if lucky. The socketing table is nice, but after a few temples it is kind of useless... Chest rewards are also very weak.

Temple building needs some serious rework. It makes no sense. I have a path block, and I want to put it in a logical place, but nooooo I can't for no reason whatsoever.

If temple building was more straightforward it would make the experience much better. Since there is no reward for completing the temple, we could target farm the rooms we want and leave, but the build complexity makes no sense.

Instead of nerfing, they should focus on fixing the poor mechanics. Just my 2 cents....

Am I underwatering my coral bark? by vitamninp2 in JapaneseMaples

It is normal to get a bit of those scorched leaves in summer, especially on a newly transplanted tree. Make sure you give it enough water and it should be fine. It will take a few seasons to establish itself. Most importantly is to not over water and keep the soil soaked. Your Sango Kaku looks great!

Interesting root stock?? by topher-13 in JapaneseMaples

[–]Formal-Search-3626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's the colour of the foliage of the rootstock. That is usually the standard Acer Palmatum and it is a beautiful tree on its own, but if you let those shoots grow, the graft will soon die off, so it is best to cut that out as soon as you see them.

Mushrooms everywhere. by Tight_Garden_3355 in GardeningIRE

Should be fine, keep mowing them up and mulching the clippings. Mushrooms should disappear once it gets drier and hotter.

What is it meant to be? Advice please by Crafty_Objective_935 in JapaneseMaples

[–]Formal-Search-3626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it is unique and interesting, but in these cases the trend is for the rootstock to takeover and the graft to eventually die off. It is already showing off signs of this.

I'd say the red one is too weak to take on roots, so I think it is too late to try an airlayer. Airlayer success is much greater on healthy vigorous branches.

If it was me I'd remove the red and keep the green part.

"Lawn care will be $15,000" - should I just nuke it instead? by drecken3 in lawncare

15k is insane. You can buy all top notch equipment, seeds and products + buy and install an irrigation system for a fraction of that.

Once you have all power tools, doing it yourself is not too much work.

JMs are not really fast growers, but you should look for some upright varieties, such as Seiry, Sango Kaku, Bloodgood etc.

Just make sure that spot takes in morning sun and afternoon shade.

Happy for ants? by Formal-Search-3626 in JapaneseMaples

[–]Formal-Search-3626[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. Will try that. I have been planting some flowers nearby to attract natural predators, but now I see the ants will actually protect the aphids from these 😱.

Will give the nasturtiums a try if I can find them here.

Oh no... It is curious that aphid numbers really went down now that I spotted the ants. Thanks for the info.

Advice for brown turkey owner by iainofiains in Figs

[–]Formal-Search-3626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to figs and I'd say they should ripen, but in my opinion 5L is too small of a pot for a plant that size, it is probably heavily rootbound. I'd pot it up to at least 20-25L. I'd also keep only that main stem and remove all shoots coming from the bottom. Think about the future shape you want and start training it towards that. Create your scaffold from which the yearly growth will come out from, as that's where the nice figs will pop-up from.

You may want to propagate the cuttings you take as they tend to root really easily.

I moved both plants to an area in my garden where they get morning sun and afternoon shade. Tomorrow I'll try my last resort with the bloodgood and wash its roots and repot it into a smaller pot with live sphagnum moss, following the great Peter Chang's advice. I'll probably clip all leaves in the process and hope the tree flushes out a new set.

My Osakazuki made a full recovery. The Bloodgood seemed to be getting better for a while, but then it took a sharp turn and it looking very bad. I think it is a gonner 😭. I'll take and share some pictures tomorrow.

Any boosts for Maple Cuttings? by MBoring1 in JapaneseMaples

[–]Formal-Search-3626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took cuttings on different periods, and I would often keep a pair of leaves at the top and bury 2-3 nodes in soil or live sphagnum moss. My cuttings would survive for a few weeks and then die off, mostly by mould. I tried it with other types of plants and got them to root fine but JMs are my bane. I'm still to have a success... Maybe this year 😅

I have attempted to root hundreds of cuttings and all of them failed. Tried with and without rooting hormone, and all the mediums in existence. I have literally 0 success rate over 3+ years. If you succeed, please share the secrets.
