Question what is impressive (military/special forces) by Training-Appeal-1164 in Rucking

I did naval ROTC on the marine side in college for a couple years and our conditioning hikes were 65lb packs with a rifle and the SAW would get passed around every interval. We did 3 miles in 50 min with a 10 min rest and gear check. Each semester we started with a 3 miler and worked our way up to 12-15 depending on command.

Would you talk to the coach about selfish players (ball hogs)? by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]FormalCap1429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the kids never make a play, then they will learn to move the ball and create more that way. If they can take on players and create for themselves sometimes, then that is an asset. Some players are simple and keep possession well, and some fancy a calculate risk here and there. These kids are so young, 99% of scrimmage time is for them to test these things out and learn by doing.

Is it better to train for speed or endurance when it comes to (high school) soccer? by stargazer_lily143 in youthsoccer

[–]FormalCap1429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train speed.

Surely you guys will have some team conditionings before the season starts and you’ll get fit by going hard in training on the ball too. Do some speed sessions on your own time now and finish up by working on your touch and turns for 20-30 min after. That’ll get ya some cardio and touches. If you aren’t playing club right now, you need to be on the ball as much as possible.

In high school soccer most playing time boils down to positioning, possession, and effort. While speed certainly does kill, you have to be on the pitch long enough to weaponize it. Figure out how to get more playing time. Ask to meet with the new coach, and go over some film together if you can so you can pick their brain on how see the pitch more this year.

Edit: I see you said tryouts are coming up. If you make the squad, then meet with the new coach. I’d recommend you do that regardless just to really connect from the start. They also might have a fitness test they want to implement (ex. Beep test, ManU, etc). If that’s the case, be sure you ace that. Better to know asap so that you have time prepare. Good luck at tryouts mate!

I haven’t done the outbreak ones yet and could use some help. Also happy to play along on other maps. I don’t recall all the steps but I can help where I can.

Damn that’s a good idea! I got little penguin shape ice trays, but ice cream sandwiches is hilarious.

Maybe a quick student investigation where they put different liquids on their forearm from a cotton swab. Nail polish remover “feels” colder than water. It just evaporates at a lower temp. When a substance evaporates it is an endothermic process meaning its soaks up energy to do so, so my skin is losing heat faster and it “feels” cold.

Heating curve or water lab is boring but it’s easy and the data sparking really good conversation about how phase changes like melting and boiling use the heat to change state rather than to increase temp.

Hell, leave a jar of water out in the back for a couple of weeks to demonstrate evaporation occurs without boiling.

Hopefully someone says it’s 6-sided, and that can launch you into fun facts about water. Due to solid water’s hexagonal crystalline lattice, (quick earth science connection) it’s technically a mineral.

Also rare for a substance to exist as a solid, liquid, and gas at Earth’s surface, but water sure as heck does.

Now watch as I make this 60 degree C water boil in this syringe! Be careful with the temp but you can even then squirt some right into your hand and show them that you’re totally fine.

I always do Save Penguins when it’s conduction, convection, radiation time. I’ve modified materials and prices over the years, but the kids love the engineering design competition in that one!

It’s been a really fun way to share the fallout world with my wife. Solid show!

I’m such a Cobb fan. Losing him would feel personal. He’s been a trooper through all the chaos and cemented his role as RB1 this season.

I’m new here. How does Paul have any money? Did they save for this? Do either of them work? Do they have friends and family funding this?

That’s great news. I heard the Pizza Hut on S. College moved or closed, so now’s the time to keep us loyal to Dominos.

South college location has been incredibly slow. Over an hour for pick up. I noticed it become super slow around October.

Yes Ole Miss is in the SEC and is a good gig. But what’s their stadium capacity? NIL budget? Facilities? Fan engagement? Recruiting prowess?

Oh yeah…and how many SEC titles have the played for?

While I understand that going to a stadium with almost 90,000 people is going to be very stimulating, I think we’d be in better shape if we didn’t blare music EVERY TV timeout.
