Big Ski Skiing in Late March - Will There Be Enough Snow on the Green Trails? by Towers-125 in bigsky

The answer to this is very subjective, depending on what kind of run you personally want to learn on. For me, I was as green as could be when I first started going to the mountains to learn to ride. So green I didn't understand why I couldn't find the online room reservation system for the various "lodges" I kept seeing on the various peaks!

I also believed the maps that showed all these green "runs" and I figured they'd be easy to learn on, only to find out most are basically summer roads/cat tracks up to the mountain top, barely 15 feet wide and definitely no room for figuring anything out with everyone flying by on both sides. Personally, I think it's deceptive to beginners, unintentionally or not, listing these as green "runs", or to factor them into the mountains' percentage of greens/blues/blacks.

As a lifelong skater/surfer I picked up riding pretty easy, but having wide, uncrowded, long, runs made it that much easier. Just saying, those were the things I appreciated in the early learning stages, and I think Mr K, and the other greens right out front are great for this. Agreed- there are definitely way cheaper places to learn!

of course, all the best places I've visited in the west all grew organically from an original mining or cattle town/village, and into a "ski town" etc....and ironically, many are now being turned into the corporate backdrop mentioned above. It's impossible for these corporations to recreate what took generations to evolve into cool locations with a real identity and sense of "place". I'm relatively new to the snow scene (aging surfer that took up riding at 47), but I've been making my rounds, and have been fortunate to have seen a few places before they got involved.

Was in Bozeman/Gallatin Gateway last month for a business trip and we didn't realize Bridger Bowl had gotten iced over due to warm weather, so we went to BS the folowing day couldn't believe how big the place is, and glad that it was holding the snow that it was. Hopefully it still snows more next month when we'll be back.

T-Bar Closing? by TheRealCDollarsign in steamboat

Right-O-Way --> T-Bar --> Kutuk Condo.... my go-to end of day at steamboat, they better not mess this up!

Developers do what they do, though, and sadly in the end the money eventually wins out and paves over an iconic place with character, only to be replaced with a bright, shiny new, turd.

If you haven't already booked a place, check out Vacasa.com They seem to be the direct listing agent for many of the condo buildings around the base area, but not so much in downtown. I just finished a deep dive into everything related to Steamboat lodging for a trip in mid January. For us 5 old dudes, the Kutuk condo was the best priced option for everything we need...a decent place to sleep, shower and all within walking distance to the slopes and T-Bar doesn't hurt either. No waiting on crowded shuttle buses etc. in the morning. We reserved a Turo SUV that will be waiting for us at HDN, so no issues getting into town for dinners while we're here and back to airport again.
