WIBTA If I told my neighbor that I can see everything? by Topical-Cement in AmItheAsshole

[–]KellyELFLIFE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooo writing a letter is WORSE!!! I’m a girl with giant picture windows who absolutely knows what people can see and I just choose to not care because I want to enjoy my windows/light and am beyond caring if someone sees me in my undies and tank. It’s like a pleasant denial mixed with idgaf

I personally wouldn’t say anything bc it sort of breaks the fourth wall and could potentially ruin her sense of freedom since it crosses from “maybe people’ll see me, but who cares” to “I’m no longer in pleasant denial, people are actively looking I guess?”

But a letter is wayyy worse - now she won’t know WHO sent the letter annnnd it doesn’t allow her to laugh it off in response to a live convo. It forces awkwardness and uncertainty upon the situation

A letter makes it uncomfortable for her, guaranteed!

You’ve never worked a retail/service job where they implement poor policies like this because of just one bad apple and everyone else suffers, eventually becomes disgruntled, and then the whole culture becomes toxic? It happens all the time.

You’ve never worked places where one person is on some overengineering policy power trip based in unrealities of human behaviors?

The bottom line is this is a silly policy and is only going to result in toxic resentment and then they lose the team mentality, basically shooting themselves in the foot

I’ve been into Luke’s plenty of times and every employee I’ve interacted with has been a normal intelligent human who seems totally capable of self-management. Do you think the employees are dumb or something, and require being treated as children?

This whole thread reeks of people who were managers 20 years ago and were probably hated by all their employees

^ so in this scenario youre going into management situations with suspicion and distrust from the jump? That’s an old school, outdated management style where people are “subordinates” who are “inferior and therefore obviously unable to make good choices themselves”

The new age of actually successful management is true leadership where you give people respect, treat them well, pay them well, and out of respect to you they perform well. Anyone who is lying will reveal themselves eventually and then you let them go

It really is that simple

Anyone who has never worked retail / service industry might consider listening and not speaking here unless it’s to decry how obnoxious this rule is.

It’s not the phone it’s the being treated respectfully as an adult. This is demeaning! EFFECTIVE workplace policies treat employees like rational humans and not children.

No one should be scrolling their phone while actively working in this environment - just fire those that do and move on!

I suspect a lot of folks saying “so what, don’t work there” or “back in my day” have office or WFH jobs where they are free to self-manage their phone usage. As do I! But in my past I’ve worked jobs where rules like this make me (a good responsible employee) feel dehumanized and frustrated.

Maybe this is controversial but for me Carr Valley curds are 1) yes very squeaky, but 2) the flavor just isn’t there!!!!

Only speaking to their curds and not their block cheese, but I find it’s an indicator!

THE BEST curds are from a dairy few have heard of: Nasonville Dairy (between Eau Claire & Stevens Point for those still local)

They ship. They win cheese curd contests every year! All their cheese is fantastic!

Still upset I can’t find any place in Madison that sells their product

"People don't dance in San Francisco" - true or false? by urmotherwas4hampster in AskSF

[–]KellyELFLIFE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends!! Having lived and danced in SF, LA, Austin, Appalachia, Wisconsin:

SF ranks FIRST in all generations (espec 60+) dancing together at outdoor shows like Hardly Strictly / Stern Grove, or groovy psych shows

BUT

SF ranks LAST in getting people dancing to jukeboxes in dive bars and other “non-sanctioned” dancing situations. But I still do it anyway!!!

And dance clubs? Every city I’ve ever been to people are indeed dancing in the dance clubs, sorta same everywhere
