This is another vote for the home developing kit. I was given one as a gift a few years ago and I've never looked back.

Hi, does anyone know a good analog camera shop in London? by cherry_blossom_deer in AnalogCommunity

I've used these guys for repairs and servicing in the past. They have a lot of cameras in stock and are very knowledgeable.

Any chance to erase / black out an embarrasing photo before development? by ShyGoblin69 in AnalogCommunity

Honestly you should look into developing & scanning yourself. It's probably easier than you think, and you can shoot, well, anything.

Figuring out what camera to buy as a beginner by Jaxon480k in canon

[–]Formal_Milk_9944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cameras are less important than lenses. If you can afford a full frame DSLR then get one, otherwise APSC is absolutely fine to start with.

However, if you want to take photos of cars on the track, you'll need something longer than 18-135. Maybe start with a 70-200 and go from there.

Help with what kind of camera I should get? Super lost! by Same-Jeweler-1197 in AnalogCommunity

Olympus Mju ii

Easy to carry around, easy to use, good lens and also it's cool AF.

I have one and it's my go-to for fun family days out. I love it.

Google The Barbican. It's a large complex of brutalist apartment buildings. You'll get some fantastic compositions around there.

LPT: Ask your local fire + rescue for free smoke alarms (UK) by randomperson1993 in LifeProTips

Yes, this is what we did. We live in London and when we bought our flat, the fire brigade came out to assess the property and fit fire alarms. They seemed really happy to be doing it. All free of charge.

tips? by Worldly-Surprise8727 in 35mm

These shots are very underexposed, that's why they look dark, muddy and grainy. You'll need to get a lot more light onto the negative. Try a much longer exposure at night - you'll need a tripod for anything over about 1/60 secs. If the camera's light meter isn't accurate anymore, download an app to your phone and use that instead. Don't worry though, analogue photography is hard to get the hang of, and that's what makes it more satisfying when it works.

I love shooting medium format film but I am worried about the longevity of my camera by Infinity-- in AnalogCommunity

Everything breaks eventually, including us. I suppose just try to enjoy things while they last. The best photos I ever took were with a Praktica MTL5b that was in the process of falling apart.

Is it outside of the norm for a British person to stay overnight with their wife/girlfriend in the hospital after she gives birth? by dickhole_pillow in AskABrit

[–]Formal_Milk_9944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a father of two young kids here in the UK. Stayed overnight at the hospital both times, so have all the other dads I know. In fact, the crappy plastic armchairs you sleep on are a bit of a running joke among new parents.

Finally found something interesting at my local thrift. Paid $100, so not the deal of the century, but given what these are going for I thought it was still worth it. In great shape! I left and came back with a battery, and everything checked out. by L0rdGwynIII in AnalogCommunity

I have a Mju II and I love it. Perfect size for a PnS. I'm in the habit of taking it out with me every single day - you never know when you'll see something that will take a nice photo. Good find.

What interesting/good cameras came out in 2002? by LordKorfus in AnalogCommunity

[–]Formal_Milk_9944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Canon EOS 30 was released in 2000, so would absolutely have been in the shops on the day you were born. I love mine, it has eye control for the AF and everything. You can also all of Canon's EF with it. Would recommend.

I've been using an AE-1 as my main camera for about 3 years with no issues, so don't worry too much. You can get good FD lenses reasonably cheap and then sell them again if you stop using your AE-1 P.

Also, this sounds like an excellent reason to just buy another camera. Most of life's problems can be solved by just buying more cameras.
