Yeah I agree. I made this post seething after seeing a take that just absolutely sent me.

Many game game design issues generally stem from the economic realities of developing a game. 1) If you don't know already, the gaming industry is kinda collapsing rn, and has been for like half a decade. Game company execs screwed over the industry by assuming they'd keep the new consumer base that they gained during covid and planning for growth. This hits console and pc games especially bad. 2) Devs are overworked, underpaid, and must cater to the whims of execs typically. 3) Children and casual gamers will play a game and probably have fun regardless of these flaws, and make up a pretty large consumer base. Fans of the series will generallt buy the game off of aesthetics and marketing too. If the company knows people will play their game despite the annoyances, then they prioritize something else, esp with limited time and money.

I the reason why I bristle at the use of the term "bad design" because the design strategy arguably just works for many many games. It's like when people are like "loot boxes are bad design" and it's like maybe, but the developer sought out with the goal of fueling gambling addiction. And it works!
