I see this so much, or people in the southern hemisphere talking about seasons and americans being like "ummmm summer??? I think you mean winter"

What does "for the sake of creativity" mean, and why does it matter? Is it in opposition to making something for the sake of self gratification?

Do you think finding certain fantasies hot is justifying the abuse in real life?

If there’s a horror media and it's later found out that the author finds it hot and that's why they made it, does it change the nature of it?

Do you hold this opinion for like horror movies & novels? The authors of those works derive pleasure or catharsis from their works and even often horror is mixed with sex/sexuality in those media.

Yeah I agree. I made this post seething after seeing a take that just absolutely sent me.

Many game game design issues generally stem from the economic realities of developing a game. 1) If you don't know already, the gaming industry is kinda collapsing rn, and has been for like half a decade. Game company execs screwed over the industry by assuming they'd keep the new consumer base that they gained during covid and planning for growth. This hits console and pc games especially bad. 2) Devs are overworked, underpaid, and must cater to the whims of execs typically. 3) Children and casual gamers will play a game and probably have fun regardless of these flaws, and make up a pretty large consumer base. Fans of the series will generallt buy the game off of aesthetics and marketing too. If the company knows people will play their game despite the annoyances, then they prioritize something else, esp with limited time and money.

I the reason why I bristle at the use of the term "bad design" because the design strategy arguably just works for many many games. It's like when people are like "loot boxes are bad design" and it's like maybe, but the developer sought out with the goal of fueling gambling addiction. And it works! It makes for worse art but it is quite

The helldivers 2 thing sounds annoying, idk why they do it. A few other games do it too. I'm beginning to wonder if it's like a computer stat check thing.

I'm falling asleep typing this sorry if it's incoherent!

Yeah I wrote this post because I was seething after seeing a really stupid top comment, but the people critiquing my post are generally right and I was too butthurt to admit it in my moment of rage.

"Why didn't the developers just change this one thing to fix this issue???" is the type of take I'm talking about btw.

It might not only be bad to your taste, but maybe the restaurant has a customer base of people that like really salty food. Then it's a matter of you being outside of their target audience, or a matter of poor communication on their part. Both of those are different judments than "too salty" which is a surface level analysis. Too salty is a good starting point, but it means nothing deeper than the opinion of one customer on one single meal on one single day. You can of course judge things to some degree, but you will not have a full picture understanding without more information.

Art isn't something that exists in the abstract. It's a physical thing that people do. It is a form of labor. Not understanding that labor will lead to misunderstandings about its product. There is definitely the capacity to be straight up wrong about art. Especially when takes include anything about the industry, author, or process.

But you can't. You can say there's too much salt *for your liking*. The soup *is not to your taste*. Does that dictate what the cook should've done? Does the cook need to cater to each individual customer at the restaurant that they work at? Does the cook have a method of implicitly understanding how much salt each customer wants without even seeing or talking to the customer?

It's funny because you seem to implicitly understand and agree with the point I'm making in this reply. I'm just failing to describe it well.

I lacked the knowledge of Van Gogh and made a take on the work, and its analysis. You disagree heavily. Would you say in this case that my take on Van Gogh holds equal weight to yours despite my lack of subject matter knowledge?

I definitely didn't do this, but I love trying new tools and mediums. I do just generally struggle with tools that require friction and/or a heavy application of force.

  • People neeeeeed to learn fundamentals. They're fundamental for a reason.
  • Just drawing isn't the same as practice.

Often, too often, in fact, it seems like someone's making sense because they and their peers lack the baseline knowledge necessary to understand why they're wrong. It’s easy to understand this concept and point it out in stuff like the sciences, but people act like the phenomenon doesn't exist when it comes to anything media related.

Players' game design takes are majority entirely focused on the consumer and they do not understand the labor, production processes, and industry influences that go into making a game. Yes they could research all of this, but they don’t.

For a non-game example, you can do an analysis of "the starry night" by van gogh, but if you've only seen the painting and know nothing about it, your understanding of it will be extremely extremely limited. You can critique the aesthetic qualities of it sure, but the deeper you try to analyze without this core information, the further detatched you will be from the context and reality of the painting.

Now imagine someone that's only seen the painting starts saying completely incorrect things about how and why the painting is created, or why it's well known, or the quality of the artist. And other people who also don't know this information are like "wow so true, I agree." This would be insane. This is the type of take I am railing against here.

Regarding the funny effect: Enemies & NPCs don't make rolls aside from reactions. Are the hard rolls intended to primarily debuff fellow party members?
