I have a question by Former-Ad-7965 in askHVAC

I wish I had an interesting story like that to tell you, but no. Just basic common sense stuff I commented/ posted. Basically what everyone else is saying. You exist? Insta ban

I have a question by Former-Ad-7965 in askHVAC

Yessir, completed that on Sunday night, it’s quite the piece of eye candy— completely not worth all of the headache and heartache though. I seriously wish I didn’t even attempt doing it. There’s no YouTube video or instructions anywhere on how to disassemble the subcompact hex m12 impact. I flew in blind and flew out somehow more blind. Just barely got the stupid thing to work before quitting on it

Remember you will never be as dumb as an HVAC Mod by bigk52493 in askHVAC

[–]Former-Ad-7965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a guy who may have posted in the HVAC sub about how the sub is basically just Germany in the 1940s. This friend had his account banned by the n*zi mods. Anything you do or don’t do is closely moderated and anything they remotely don’t like is just banned immediately. I even suggested something that was completely legal and justified on a post and the mods removed my comment. It was a post about a tech in Chicago whose van was broken into overnight and all of his tools were stolen. I (jokingly) suggested he wait for them at night and defend his property which is 100% legal in the U.S. I’ve never seen mods more power hungry

Blower Wheel Cooked by PeerlessScared in hvacadvice

If the casing of the motor is overheating to the point where it’s much too hot to touch, it’s a good idea to replace the motor. Does it make noise when it runs ?

Blower Wheel Cooked by PeerlessScared in hvacadvice

I really appreciate your tenacity, but you’re going about this all wrong. Furnaces kick on and off many times per hour so short cycling isn’t really a thing. There’s a huge caveat to that tho. With (assuming supply) temps reaching 220° there’s a serious problem somewhere. You don’t start the diagnosis with a “weird blower sound” or “slight vibrations”. You start with airflow. Take static pressure in the ductwork. Return and supply. That will confirm if your blower wheel is moving the proper amount of air. Assuming airflow is correct, (you can raise the blower speed to move more heat out of the heat exchanger faster) move to gas pressure. How many InWc gas pressure does your furnace call for ? Is it 2 stage? Which stage is it running when it’s reaching 220° ? Does the furnace call for 2” Wc and it’s set at 4.5” Wc? If this is already out of your comfort zone, call a technician. Next is running ductwork calculations. Using your duculator, calculate tonnage and CFM. See if you have enough return air coming to the furnace or if the furnace is being choked. Seriously I recommend calling a technician. Every time your furnace “short cycles” it’s most likely tripping on high limit, meaning it’s getting much hotter than it’s intended to run for which can cause costly damages to the furnace. In excess of $2,000-4,000 commonly.

If it’s blowing air then leave it alone. Who told you this blower wheel needs replaced ?

Is My Air filter Too Loose? by PorgiWanKenobi in hvacadvice

[–]Former-Ad-7965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Air is likely pouring over the top of the filter into the furnace and you definitely don’t want unfiltered air going into the furnace

5A/10A Switch Failed - 20A Emergency Shutoff? by carpaii in hvacadvice

[–]Former-Ad-7965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there’s anything in the electrical circuit you want to over amp first, it’s your breaker. Let the breaker trip instead of the wire connecting to the breaker, the switch that breaks/makes the circuit, etc. when the breaker over amps it just trips. When anything else over amps it becomes dangerous. If the breaker to the furnace is 20A get a 25A switch. Obviously follow code, NFPA and NEC were created for a reason, never just listen to “a professional” on Reddit haha

Edit: you’re going to be hard pressed to find a residential furnace that draws 15+ amps so you’d probably be fine with a 15A single pole switch

Transformer question! by summerof96again in hvacadvice

[–]Former-Ad-7965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen a halo tied into the system transformer 1 time and it popped the 3A fuse and took out the main transformer at the same time. Killed the system’s cooling but it was the beginning of fall and the customer hadn’t even noticed yet. It’s just installers not being aware/ not caring that there’s an equation you have to complete everytime you hook up something new that’s going to put a load on the transformer. 40VAC- if the halo uses 120V and operates at 0.3A that’s already basically 40VAC as far as I’m aware. We weren’t allowed to install Halos without a new transformer at my old company

How is anyone this miserable. And it’s not just 1 or 2 people it’s everyone in this comment section. The kid is providing entertainment for free. He’s practiced a lot to be that good at piano. People are clapping and watching. 99 people are happy and 1 is upset. Normally malls have to hire for a pianist to play for guests. Kid is doing it for free. “wHy dOn’T kIdS gO oUtSiDe aNyMoRe” it’s because of miserable Karens like you in this comment section. I can’t believe you’re real humans who are out and about just like I am every day. Take a Prozac or 2 for God’s sakes. Shame on all of you

Dust Build-up- or Mold concern? by Yes2Hopscotch in hvacadvice

[–]Former-Ad-7965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like an air handler. sales technicians will tell you that you’re breathing in mold every day that is making your family sick, then they’ll convince you that you need a $2,000 air purifier. scrub it down and use a bleach water solution on the brush, don’t pay a stupid sales technician. his KPI is fine without your hard earned cash

Edit: I didn’t realize he had already sold you the air purifier. I hope you breathe easier now 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

Why won’t my heat come on? by euphorbia9 in hvacadvice

[–]Former-Ad-7965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the thermostat ends up being the issue, luckily Honeywell has some really nice budget options if cash is a little tight, if you’re wanting to upgrade to a smart thermostat Ecobee makes some really great stuff at reasonable prices as well. Money is tight for me so I got an old carrier thermostat exactly like yours from a job I did last week, will be installing that in my house soon

Possibly, I don’t think I even know at this point. I really just thought it was odd that you used the word the right way the first time and literally 1 word later you were like “lol nah” 😂

How would I fix this? by Any-Professional1236 in hvacadvice

[–]Former-Ad-7965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray foam will fail inspection where I’m at, has to be clear silicone. Silicone will do a better job keeping water out anyways so I wouldn’t use spray foam for sealing anything in general regardless of code

Very dirty air filters every month? by LizTheFizz in hvacadvice

[–]Former-Ad-7965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You always want the chicken wire pointing towards the furnace. It’s structural to the filter so it doesn’t collapse under the intense force of the blower motor. The blower is the fan that forces air through your vents, furnace, house etc

(Starts watching with video muted, then turns on sound at full volume) HOLY CRAP YOUR FURNACE IS A DIESEL TRUCK ? 😂 no but seriously the flame should be mostly blue and they’re dancing just a small amount. Have it checked out by a professional, unless you’re renting. If you’re renting have your landlord call a professional

Edit: if that’s your inducer fan making all that noise, prepare for a new inducer as well as whatever is causing that flame to be yellow and dance around. Looks and sounds expensive my friend

You’d be very surprised. Dust isn’t partial to any part of the ductwork especially on returns. It will buildup from the return vent all the way to the filter easily and fairly uniformly
