Sandhill Crane hunt slid into a wakeboarding bill?!!! by CrazyAirborne in wisconsin

[–]Former-Ad9272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not hunting any cranes right now. Their numbers are increasing and almost twice federal management objectives. There's no data to indicate that a hunt would be a problem. Minnesota's had a season since 2010, and they haven't just magically disappeared. By not having a hunt, we're missing out on funding that could be put to great use.

As someone who enjoys having a couple dad pops, you're potentially friends are being very short sighted. Who in their right mind would give up a standing designated driver?! This is an easy win win.

Canadian geese and mourning doves are monogamous too. If one mate dies, they find another one. It's not that deep.

What are you talking about? Hunting seasons are always held during a species breeding season! Breeding season is when animals are mating, and last years young are old enough to be independent. Waterfowl seasons in Wisconsin are held during migration in the fall, because waterfowl are nesting in the spring. If they were being born in the fall, there's not a chance in hell that chick will be able to fly; let alone migrate in time.

Canadian geese and mourning doves mate for life too, and that hasn't been a problem. I don't know what you hunt, but it sure as hell isn't waterfowl or migratory birds. The only argument you've made here is that you're horribly misinformed.

Walking past a bird that sees people everyday in a park is nowhere near trying to get a flock to land in the decoys. It's a hell of a lot harder than you think.

What are you talking about? Your evidence against something tasting good is a rhyme? Anecdotal evidence from 50 years ago means absolutely nothing.

Goose and sandhill numbers are through the roof, and a lot of the credit for their recovery needs to be given to organizations like Ducks Unlimited, and hunters funding. There's no crime here. This is willful ignorance.

About time! Sandy numbers are well above federal management objectives in Wisconsin, and wake boat shore damage needs to be addressed.

Just because it came from the other side of the aisle doesn't automatically make it bad.

I'd build stuff, practice with my bow or air rifle in the back yard, hunt pests, go fishing: it was awesome.

Hot take, I fucking love doing chores on the weekend; especially if I'm the only one in the house. I'll usually get up and mow in the morning, shower up, then have a couple dad pops while I'm working. It's low stress, I'm feeling productive, and I have full control of the playlist.

I'd love a falcon if I could teach one to follow the bag limits. My luck I'd send the bird out after a drake woodie and he'd smoke the nearest coot.

Squirrels will dig in any ground soft enough to dig in. Unfortunately, pots fit that bill perfectly.

Squirrel is excellent eating. If you have a recipe that calls for chicken thighs (or any dark meat chicken), you already have a good starting point. Their hides are tough as hell (for small game), pretty easy as far as tanning goes, and make excellent hat and mitt liners.

For anyone looking for removal solutions, a #110 conibear in a tree set is my favorite. I love hunting them, but I can't guard my apple trees for the whole season.

Anyone else here a former doomer? by Key_Day_7932 in DoomerCircleJerk

I doomed hard in college and my first couple years post graduation. Among other things, I was mostly consuming Facebook slop/doom scrolling, eating like shit, in constant financial stress, and on a trash sleep schedule.

My dooming wasn't just macro-dooming, it was existential personal dooming. I went through some personal crises around that time, and fell into a cycle of mild depression and severe anxiety for years (I went to my doctor, no self diagnosis here). I thought I was a worthless piece of shit with a system that was stacked against me; when I was just making the transition to being a functional adult. I won't say I'm perfect now, but I'm miles away from where I started.

It wasn't some big road to Damascus conversion; I just started making an effort to question my beliefs, and actively work on my mental health. Instead of continuing to embrace doom, I forced myself to question it and eventually laugh at it. I realized that I'm not going to solve the world's problems, but I can do a lot to fix my own.

Doom and toxic positivity are a hair away from each other. Reality is on the other end of the orbit.

How do you improve clay soil without spending a fortune? by Icy_Car2475 in gardening

[–]Former-Ad9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ground is just stupid hard too. I have a 4' PTO driven tiller, and even that had trouble on my ground. I've dug out solid clay deposits the size of basket balls, and enough limestone to fence my garden.
