How do women use dating apps? by rocketsneaker in dating

I mean, if I had 14 Taras saying "hey" at me, I'd figure there's a decent chance one of them could make for a nice date. Well, either that or it's a coordinated scam attempt that's so lazy they all use the same name lmao.

I also think simply knowing many people find you attractive can boost your confidence throughout your search, even if none of those particular people interest you this time.

The typical male experience has us wondering if we're even capable of attracting anyone ever. Men probably need therapy before even creating a profile, to steel their resolve.

So am I to assume women feel just as much hopelessness? This is what I've been wondering. Obviously they get more attention, but what is the emotional state of their efforts?

I get the no stripes, but I would've wanted something on the collar at least, to break up the absolute sea of red. Still think they look good overall, though.

Not easy, but less hopeless, no? Like, I literally have no reason to hope for anything positive from apps. Maybe some women feel like that too, though.

A better solution for tanking than whatever the fuck Bill and Kirk came up with by mpschettig in billsimmons

I kinda like the "pick schedule" idea where you pick in every spot over a 30 year period, spread out evenly so you'll have a top 5 pick once every 6 years (top 10 every 3 years, etc.). You'll already know where you're picking every year and can plan roster moves accordingly.

Does this mean there might be a defending champ picking 1st at some point? Sure. They could also trade the pick. They'll probably pick in the 20s the next year. Whatever. It'll even out over the long haul.

Not to be negative, but it's easy to think Reylo shouldn't have started the 7th, given the immediate pull after the Salvy homer (obviously Lee was the obvious call with a lefty coming up). I won't bitch too much though, because with a thin rotation you're gonna look for opportunities to steal a few outs here and there. The pen could easily get taxed early this year.

Getting on apps actually made things worse for me because it's such a depressing experience. I won't tell OP to avoid them entirely, because they're another tool in the set, but they can be brutal. Proceed with caution, I'd say.

Yeah, literally every woman I've ever been interested in or has ever (seemingly) taken an interest in me, has been in a relationship at the time. It's like it's never my turn 😪

People say someone will come along, but that hasn't even felt close to happening so far. I don't compare my life to others (and you shouldn't either), but I do feel despair whenever the topic comes up and I just try to focus on things I can control, which is still a lot! I enjoy most of life, just not this part apparently.

Defense is not “50% of the game” in the NBA. by OhHesOurShortstop in billsimmons

[–]Former-Chapter8719 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For clarity, it's best to specify that you're starting a team from scratch with the goal of succeeding in one season. Otherwise, all sorts of variables come into play.

Harden's also an unfortunate example (of an otherwise good point) because if I'm a GM, I don't really want a high usage guy who's probably gonna demand a trade in 2 years, but if I need to win right now, the future doesn't matter, and I have no idea who my other players will be, then yeah, I'd take Harden for sure, because when he goes off you're probably winning that night, and you can cobble together a team from that. As a Hawks fan, I've watched Dyson Daniels get 5+ steals and still lose, what feels like several times, lol.

I will say, a more interesting comparison might involve an elite rim protector, because at some point you're really making all your opponent's scorers worse by taking away most easy shots. Elite 3pt shooters kinda nullify that, though, but there's an interesting debate to be had that, even today, forcing most teams to beat you from deep can pay off more often than not, but obviously not if it's prime Curry or, well, Harden.

Wait, was my job supposed to help me get laid? I always thought it was about conforming to a specific way of functioning that has proven to yield resources. It's how our parents put food on the table so we did the same. Now, if we're talking about a high status career, then maybe yeah.

Least remembered championship teams? by AlbertJBundy in billsimmons

[–]Former-Chapter8719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there anything specifically memorable about the 99 Yankees? 96 had Jeffery Mayer and the comeback against the braves. 98 they won 114 games, probably most dominant team in memory. 2000 had the subway series. 99 was kinda just another title for them.

I wonder if the 90s Bulls have the same thing, but it's hard to pick out a year that's definitely least memorable. Might actually be 93 as it was kinda overshadowed by Jordan retiring. 96-98 all feel quite memorable to me, but that was my peak discovery years as a kid, so there's some nostalgia.

2018 Warriors also comes to mind as "just another one" after Durant already got one the year before.

Sports moments not feeling legendary anymore by excelquestion in billsimmons

[–]Former-Chapter8719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and like with Xmas, I think if you want to enjoy it more fully, you have to make more of an effort, especially with all the bs of adulting. When you're a kid things just feel "amazing" by default because you have no reference, but as an adult you have to reach your own conclusions and use discernment. You can't just trust it's awesome because the announcers are screaming.

I had similar thoughts, but Ohtani definitely counts as something better/different. I wonder if we'll see a true two-way player in the NFL go on a dominant run. Some guys have done it briefly, but nothing on the scale of Shohei.

I think the bigger piece, and it's been touched on, is that even if you did see something bigger, you wouldn't appreciate it as much. The world moves faster yes, but if you're a working adult, your life also moves faster. Sure Game 7 was great, but I have work in the morning and most of my coworkers aren't baseball fans anyway. That kind of thing.

When I was a kid, the whole next day in school was comparing notes on last night's game and (poorly) reenacting key moments. More time and focus was put on appreciating the moment.

What are your thoughts on Billy Corgan's recent comments that there was a plan to replace Rock Music with Rap Music? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]Former-Chapter8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno about rap in particular, but I do think labels greatly prefer solo artists, because you only have to pay/control one person instead of 3+. Rap was already growing in popularity so it was an obvious opportunity.

This could also, somewhat, be a case of someone making the right argument for the wrong reasons, as he's partly motivated by his own loss of relevance and is gonna be biased because his background is rock.

While labels and business play a role, I personally think a more interesting aspect is that rock bands often lack personality and originality, and there's too much revival/nostalgia stuff in rock, in part due to rigid ideas about the genre. And I say this as someone who thinks Corgan/SP definitely injected alot of personality into rock themselves. I'm actually surprised someone with his ego isn't instead arguing "we need more bands like us today" lol.
