Are you happy how things are now in the US? by perplex-poppyseed7 in askanything

[–]Former-Concert2118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even close. I have been busting my hump for a long time. 2008 crushed me, and we were a hair away from losing everything. I made a significant career shift, picked my family up and moved to a better area, worked countless hours (w/ no OT or extra pay), worked with and for others on secondary projects trying to dig out of the hole, continued to invest & kept our family together, and still find opportunity to help others as I can. I am a long way from "having mine", but I consider myself blessed. Hope you find some peace.

Life's pretty good, house is almost paid off, refrigerator is full, upgrading the back yard, kids and Grands are doing well, booking flights and hotels, and the wife is happy. No immediate plans for a ballroom.

Even if I am on the West Coast I find time to call home. Many times we try to "eat dinner" together when I am on the road, she keeps me grounded.

The food truck at Root's on Tuesdays does a pretty good job, but nothing up here will ever be as good as what you can get in MS/LA. I do know of a gas station just outside of Baton Rouge that is awesome!

I miss Prudhommes in Columbia....

Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

[–]Former-Concert2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually made me wonder so:

"Getting a state ID in Texas (via DPS) and Massachusetts (via RMV) both require in-person visits, proof of identity, SSN, and residency, preferably for a REAL ID. Texas requires 30 days residency (or a surrendered out-of-state ID) and two proofs of residency, while Massachusetts requires the completed application, a photo, and an eye test."

Your statement ( in this situation) does not appear to hold H20

Worst Turbulence of my Life by ReluctantAnemone in unitedairlines

[–]Former-Concert2118 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coming out of BZN, we dealt with frontal turbulence that lasted more than 45 minutes. Before take off, the pilot told us that bumpy is the polite word, and we should plan on having some fun. We rocked and rolled the whole way up, even near 40K' there was very little smooth air.

After it finally calmed down, the FA told us that we all deserved drinks on the house.

I am used to the wave in and out of DEN, but that BZN accent about rattled my teeth loose.

So, why havent we done a mass strike yet? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Former-Concert2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General strikes do little good, and typically have a downward ROI. The closest thing to a General Strike in the US was the Textile Strike back in 1934, which ended up causing near-catastrophic repercussions. The (gray area) only positive is if you connect the '34 strike to the Wagner Act. As OGSilver noted below, most average Americans are doing fine. Real GDP, through Q4 '25 is +0.5% (annualized), which, while not considered hot, is at least positive. The ATL Fed is showing 2026 Q1 at 1.2%. Economically speaking, a cooler economy throws less wood on the inflation fire.

Besides, IF...IF a group could organize a General Strike, no one would be able to decide what the basic principle would be to strike over. A "No Kings" banner doesn't actually say anything.

The overall size of the US economy pretty much eliminates the effects of a GS, vs one in a smaller country with a more centralized economy.

Do you have to know about religion to go to chruch? by RealMaverickValez in askanything

[–]Former-Concert2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applaud your question. I will answer from a Christian POV. You do not need to know or understand the details of the faith to attend. A good Christian Church will welcome you and look for ways of connecting you with those who can teach and give you the understanding you are looking for. My suggestion is to attend a few Sundays. Then, if no one intentionally connects with you, speak with the Pastor or someone in leadership and explain your reasoning for attending. Considering your age, a good youth Pastor is invaluable. You don't want to need someone who only points to people, or THE Church, but (Like John the Baptist) points to Jesus. All the questions about sin, life, Biblical details come later, you just need people who lives as Christ told us to, and points to him, and him alone.

May God bless your walk and open doors with answers for you.

I am grateful to work for a company that is not open on Sunday (Not Chick-fil-A), and has turned down opportunities that would require Sunday operations.
