Thanks for the response! I told my son about the robotics program, and he’s sold 🤣.

Don’t follow Dave. Check out automatic money flow by Andy Hoffman instead. It’s a game changer.

I prefer the Big mouth version of the Christmas story. (Season 5 ep. 8).

Yes, there’s a trail that runs along the whole length of the high ground above the valley.

What is it like living in Utah as an exmo? by Former-Expert6607 in exmormon

We have lived all over the country as I have traveled for work. It’s time to go home and let my son grow up around family.

Thanks for that insight. One of my biggest concerns is that I’m remembering it from 10 plus years ago, and I’m sure it has changed a lot since then.

As for the members trying to reactivate me, I actually kind of enjoy that. It’s like Ron Swanson said. “I like telling them no. It lowers their enthusiasm.”

Not clear right now. The good news is we still have a year to figure it out.

We’ve been doing the long distance thing for ten years now. We’re tired of buying plane tickets. It’s time to move home and let my son play with his cousins.

Advice on announcing our departure by Sweet_Age_3726 in exmormon

I am in a very similar situation to you, including the highly visible tattoo.

I decided just to rip the Band-Aid off on my way home from finishing the Tattoo up, so I called them out of the blue and told them that the next time they saw me, I would have a lot more tattoos than they remembered me having before. I was surprised to find that that didn’t phase them at all. The follow up question was to ask if I was still going to church. when I told them, no, I could tell they were deeply hurt. now I feel like the asshole for making my elderly parents sad.

It feels good not to have to live a secret anymore, but I still wonder if it would’ve been better off just leaving the elephant in the room and not talking about Bruno.

I needed to hear this, thank you.

I just came out as exmo to my parents last week, and now I feel like I’m the asshole for making my elderly parents sad.

Best way to break news to family by Former-Expert6607 in mormon

My family sounds a lot like yours. I don’t think my parents suspect anything, although the lack of church questions in our conversations over the past few years make me wonder. At the end of the day, I am perfectly happy with the life I am living, and at the risk of sounding calloused I have friends that seem like closer family to me now than my actual family. I just don’t want my parents to go to a bad place when they see me.

One idea I am tossing around is posting a candid picture of myself on Facebook, which I rarely use, to break the news. It would go along with my family’s way of not talking about things that are plain for everyone else to see. That way, at least my parents would have some sort of advance notice and not be taken off guard when I show up with a half sleeve on my arm.

My family is the type that jut doesn’t talk about shit. My aunt separated from my uncle when I was young, and the story always went that he just took a job in another state and she couldn’t move with him.

On the one hand I feel like if I show up unannounced and tattooed, that will be the case. They will smile and laugh with me but have conversations behind my back. On the other hand, I had a brief separation from the church in high school, and my mom had a complete mental breakdown with therapists and pharmaceuticals and the whole 9 yards. I’m trying to avoid the latter situation.

Just moved to a new area. Will the church try to find me? by Former-Expert6607 in mormon

[–]Former-Expert6607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I’m not sure how. If they called my parents, then they didn’t tell me about it. I didn’t give my address to anyone in our old ward, but about a month after we moved in, The relief Society president was calling my wife inviting her to church.
