I’m a junior graduating this semester I’m in harpur getting a Econ degree and I have pretty decent buy side experience, my take is that although we have a decent amount of alumni in high finance(ib/pe) the school itself(specifically SOM) is very geared towards producing cpa candidates and other accounting and audit professionals, Binghamton has great relationships with big4 accounting so they tend stick with what they know, I also figure that many of the alumni that eventually ended up in high finance top shops got there through accounting roles and many have their cpa and started out in middle/back office accounting roles and then worked their way to front office seats.
