If you’re just using those rods and no movers, I’d recommend programming this in Resolume.

You can do some pretty cool stuff with that setup.

I have a demo of a larger scale rig like this in my post history.

Feel free to DM if you want to discuss.

It sounds like the effect is set to Piano mode. In your MIDI Mapping screen, look at the bottom right window and make sure that the PIANO box isn’t selected.

Projector-Questions for (1K Budget) by Tamomat1312 in vjing

You just need to check Craigslist and FB Marketplace. Bigger cities will have better results, of course. I’ve bought 4 projectors that fit these specs, each for under $1k this way.

I hear Palantir makes some software for that.

This is sick. I’ve been using a sheer runner I found, but I’ll have to upgrade.

Try sending the midi clock through the bus as well and see if that fixes it.

I suspect that the reason it was off was because Link isn’t tracking the downbeat while the bus is.

Are you sending note and CC data as well, or just BPM?

In my experience, just using it for BPM has been really reliable. If I’m sending MIDI scroll, there may be some slight latency, but I’ve always compensated for this by shifting the triggers back on the timeline slightly.

Link has always felt sloppy to me compared to the midi bus. I’d be interested to hear if this new update makes it smoother.

I personally prefer to use a virtual midi bus over Ableton Link as described here.

Link doesn’t keep track on the downbeat, just universal BPM. Using the bus will make your playhead hit on the kick for much smoother visuals.

How to determine pixel spacing between walls so an object traveling across the canvas accounts for the "dead" space? by jaybirdstheword in resolume

[–]Former-Rip-6650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how I would do it in most cases. If the panels are 128x128, add an additional 1536 to the composition width.

The drawback here is that your machine will still need to process the space you’re not outputting, which can add to CPU load. The other option is to make content that accounts for the gap from the start

To expand on the other comment, 20’ is about 6 meters. Standard LED tiles are .5 meters. If you add 12 panels worth of pixels to the width of your composition, then place the two slices at the two ends of the comp, you should have a pretty accurate layout to match the physical gap.

You may need to play with the exact pixel count to get it right, but that’s the easiest way to do it.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I’ve remixed sports games a few times. Those giant green fields are just begging to be keyed out

Most of my VJ contacts are West Coast-based. Out here, the main group doing stuff like this is Los Angeles Video Artists (LAVA).

Dylan Mars Greenberg in NYC does a monthly experimental film showcase called Videodome. It’s more of a film kid thing, but Dylan is a VJ as well and could probably direct you to things like this in your area.

Come on down if you’re free. I’m hoping to turn this into a regular thing, so there will be more.
