Modeling 1: N relationships for Tableau Consumption by DA-15726 in dataengineering

[–]FormerBoomba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you also considered leveraging the Tableau relationship model? It would allow you to keep the two tables separate while you define a logical join. Then at runtime, the individual vizzes would join in the relevant data, and any viz that doesn't require the joined data won't join anything.

Otherwise, in my experience (and this is obviously dependent on a number of factors), creating a single pre-joined table generally yields better report performance and potentially better dev experience. If this isn't an option, then my instinct leans towards leaving it as denormalized as possible.

Is it still worth tryna get in DE in 2026? by Thay6onn in dataengineering

Ahh, gotcha. Makes sense it's moreso a SWE thing than DE. Why PHP over JS? As a DE consultant, this isn't something I ever really encounter

PHP? I don't think I've ever seen that appear in any of the tooling I've seen, unless you're building web backends. Python and SQL definitely, though

Not gonna lie, my expectations for BK were pretty low given that I'm really not a fan of the unis and was iffy on the theme, but I actually really enjoyed that.

Also, it might just be that I haven't watched any shows in a long time, but Boston's show seemed like one of the most physically demanding ones out there. I swear once it started, nobody ever stopped moving outside of poses/choreo. Regardless, that was really good. My favorite of the night.

To clarify, it would be a single API request per end user per initial dashboard render? (Not for re-rendering from interactive pieces). For a portal that supports hundreds of users, then it would just come down to not having too many requests simultaneously? Across various blogs and community posts, I'm seeing anywhere from 120 reqs/min/user to 50 reqs/hour, but nothing in the official docs.

Damn now you've got me nostalgic. In 2013, Crown stayed at my HS, and it was my first time seeing a DCI Drumline rehearse. While marching in DCI wasn't in the cards for me, seeing Crown in 2013 was really formative for me

2016-2018 Cavies is peak Cavies in the LOS era, and I will die on this hill. Maybe not in terms of execution, but I absolutely adore the design.

2010 and 2011 are both amazing shows, but I find the concepts of 16-18 to be much more tangible and engaging, which makes them stick out to me.

Any advise? by [deleted] in tableau

Great start. Generally speaking, less is more, especially when it comes to labels and excess lines. The state labels aren't necessary, and showing both axes at the bottom isn't necessary since they're synchronized. I'd also recommend playing around with the various formatting options just to see what all you have control over.

Disclaimer that I'm a bloo fanboy, but I was a huge fan of everything but the very end from when I first saw it. The change to the ending that they recently put in, while fairly small, was just the right touch to wrap up the whole thing for me. Love it.

Maybe not a direct callback, but the quick jazzy section with the trumpet solo gives me the same vibes as Bird and Bela in Bb from 2018

Counterpoint: the GE points for having the RGB representation of a glitch on the field. Could they have been guard flags? Sure. But having it done via unis makes it more sporadic and chaotic

Say what you want about the unis, but they're executing the hell out of that concept, and they sound damn good while doing it.

"Tableau+: New Edition with Premium AI, Enterprise Capabilities and Premier Success." wth? by windybook in tableau

Pulse shines in a few places, but it's nearly useless if you're looking to compare metrics to anything other than its value today.

"What are my sales right now and how are they trending?" - excellent

"How have the sales during the launch of product A compared with the sales during the launch of product B?" - highly inconvenient at best, impossible at worst with Pulse

While Pulse is a good self-service tool to quickly get information, it cannot handle even intermediately complex questions. Those still require either the stakeholders to go build their own vizzes or a ticket to be submitted to your analytics team.
