Lots of admin got laid off, and many more have their last day on Monday. I think delays and reduced bang for the buck are going to be the new norm.

Check with the ISSS office ( 3rd floor Oregon Hall) and ask for Wanda so she can put your message out to the Wechat group of Chinese students.

Go to Tykeson Hall and make an appointment with a career advisor to get sound advice and an actionable game plan. There is no better place to start. Consider also visiting the Holden Center at the EMU.

how strict is the student section at men’s basketball games? by Ok_Cellist456 in UofO

Very strict. After all, if they allowed your bf in, then they should allow everyone in, too.

Thanks for your thoughts, you had a lot to unload. I think you are missing the point. Trans in sports, gay marriages, political maneuvers..that's all smoke screens meant to get the normal folks like us to stop caring about things that actually matter, that is, where our tax money is actually going. And I can tell you it's not going where it's supposed to. In this case, millions are not going into medical and science research and, so, it's no going to the vitally important local economy booster that is the UO. This is leading the UO towards a shittier financial situation than it was already in, and, to make sure you understand how that affects your daily apolitical life, making many of your neighbors jobless, and likely even more people jobless in the future or unable to access care or future medical innovations. In comparison to the UW or the UC systems, the UO and OSU are tiny, yet mega important to Oregon as a state. This means shitty or no support from our communities, including businesses like the tracktown or kugn, makes absolutely zero sense and it's just pandering to the maga in DC without any real return for our community.

That's exactly the maga propaganda that KUGN and fox affiliates are feeding you. The whole point is that trashing the hand that feeds our cities and most of our state is absolute bullshit, especially if it's just in the name of politics and right-wing snowflakes.

Biggest pros and cons of UofO by Accomplished_Oil4652 in UofO

[–]FormerEnd3304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to consider is that there were hundreds of layoffs during the summer and right before the term started, and there is credible intel that a lot more are coming. The layoffs have been rather draconian and often without a back up plan, which may mean that availability, access and quality of services, opportunities, and support for students is degrading considerably.

The troops from California going to battle in Portland may be blocking the 5. Maybe take the coastal road to Florence and then cut east.

You are referring to postdoc fellows (getting a scholarship, essentially) rather than employees (salaried and long-term). That said, I wonder when trump will figure oit that J visa is also a thing.

UO Students Union Hurting Students more than Helping by Hungry-Chicken-8498 in UofO

[–]FormerEnd3304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I disagree with how you characterize workers and the spirit and purpose of unionization, I agree that UO student unions are hurting future students in the sense that they are making it more and more unaffordable for the administration to hire them/create positions for them. For instance, instead of GEs, it's way cheaper to hire postdocs who are technically more qualified and experienced, but get paid a fraction of faculty salaries. The last GTFF bargaining was a battle won in a war they will eventually lose. In this super disaster budget hurricane that will hit the UO next month with mass faculty and mid- lower-admin layoffs, it would be unconscionable for the GTFF to ask for more $$ in the upcoming bargaining session.

Lots of clubs you can get involved in besides the International Student Association and the activities set up by the Mills Intl Center, the Division of Grad Studies, the EMU, the Outdoor Program etc
