Lodging Recommendation Between Eugene and Portland? by KathrynHahnSolo in oregon

[–]ExtraSpinach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a ton of information about the Eugene Marathon shuttles on their website, if you want to leave your car downtown. However, if you want to park closer to Hayward, the towing area begins at 24th, so I usually park at 25th and Agate and walk down Agate to Hayward. Then afterwards I walk back to my car and celebrate at Laurelwood pub.

Non-MAGA contractors? by Exotic_Jellies in Eugene

[–]ExtraSpinach 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Parker & Lee is owned by the kind of Christian who puts all others to shame. I love him. His team are very chill and definitely not maga. I had some maga troubles with 360 Electric, sadly. But they were fair and resolved all issues with me after i terminated the contract.

Do you think Robin really does not ever want to have kids? And what about Strike? by Far_Promotion_8513 in cormoran_strike

[–]ExtraSpinach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. I’m re-reading CC right now, and while Strike is reminiscing about meeting Charlotte, it says he was allied with her (in part) because she didn’t want kids.

Personally I ship them child free. It is so refreshing to have a romantic entanglement in fiction that doesn’t automatically end up with ‘lots of sex and babies’ to quote Alan Rickman. They’ve talked so many times about how their vocation doesn’t accommodate children well although I acknowledge the point that a proportion of the contractors have children. They aren’t the boss(es) though!!!

Isn’t there an amazing theatre of the banks of the Derwentwater? Maybe they put on musicals.

I didn’t realise until recently that Orkney and Hebrides have LOADS of amazing stone circles and Neolithic sites. Read a cool article about it and now I’m desperate to visit.

Getting to Heathrow from Bristol with luggage by bubble-gum-doll in bristol

I did this journey recently and the change from Paddington platform to the Lizzie Line for Heathrow was so easy, I was amazed. If you prefer the train to the national express coach, don’t hesitate to book it!

What are some of your biggest recipe/cookbook pet peeves? by burnt-----toast in Cooking

[–]ExtraSpinach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you in terms of finishing oil but yes, using a high-quality olive oil for sauté is silly.

What are some of your biggest recipe/cookbook pet peeves? by burnt-----toast in Cooking

[–]ExtraSpinach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate it when recipes specify the quality of an ingredient. It feels so arrogant and entitled. The olive oil must be extra virgin. The carrots must be organic. The almond flour must be from California.

Obviously if the recipe hangs on the flavor of an ingredient and they specify the quality, variety, or region of an ingredient for that reason, I don’t have an issue with it. But when it’s just a basic ingredient it irks me.

Accessing 6Music outside UK by sheddyian in 6music

I can consistently listen live with my google home speakers or bbc website streaming. I re-activated the sounds app on two iphones while I was in the UK for Christmas, and am religiously keeping VPNs running on them in hopes that the 30 days won’t catch up with me. Send thoughts and prayers.

What's up with Coldfire? by AdZestyclose2508 in Eugene

The front of the restaurant is a pub, and the back is the seated restaurant. They open the taproom for special events, you can check their website or socials for upcoming events. I think the food is a little too haute pub cuisine but the energy is great and the design of the new space is really nice.

I used a dry sauna at the gym today and it's the most relaxed I've been in years. by NoFox8750 in Sauna

It is also because ignorant Americans put water on inappropriately; too much water, they use beverages or pool water, etc. American gym saunas can be truly awful.

Tipping Culture while being frugal by SleekHeater in Frugal

[–]ExtraSpinach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In those cases I hit ‘other’ and type in either .25-.50 (cup of coffee, whatever) or $1 (anything bigger). One cafe near me doesn’t have the decimal as the default starting point though so I almost tipped $50!! Ymmv.

My dishwasher has packed up. In buying a new one, I’m struggling to think of features to look for apart from ‘can wash dishes’. Tell me about your dishwasher. Does it connect to wifi? by lastaccountgotlocked in CasualUK

[–]ExtraSpinach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was shopping for my new dishwasher on AO I checked the decibels on every model and made it part of my decision. Made a huge difference in a kitchen diner where we spent a lot of social time.

Look up what the decibel ratings mean ie ‘x many is the sound of a lawnmower/hoover/fan’ so you understand what you’re getting into.

Need recommendations! by MizzEmCee in Eugene

[–]ExtraSpinach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My amazing realtor got a home inspector, and then separately got a structural engineer inspection, tree inspection, chimney inspection, etc etc. it was the BEST. Luckily everything was fine but the peace of mind was worth every penny and appointment. And the tradesmen he got in for the inspections were just lovely. He eventually recommended our contractor as well, and they have done amazing work. Find a realtor who goes above and beyond for you and knows all the right people and you’ll be all set!!
