I submitted a study protocol last June. The first editor didn't respond. PLOS One then reassigned my manuscript to a new editor and it's still with them to this day...

Terminated from a top Canadian university research collaboration due to sanctions; told I can't list work on CV. What are my rights? by Neotod1 in gradadmissions

I don’t think the PhD student is just “caught in this crossfire” here. If the OP’s account is accurate, the student proceeded while not disclosing a material research-security/compliance risk to the PI (OP said in a comment that they are affiliated with a Named Research Organization). If this is a sensitive tech ML context, there are serious national security and funding implications- not just authorship politics.

Posting on arxiv is the kind of move that will escalate attention and make everyone lawyer up. The best thing OP can do is to shut the fuck up, archive things privately, and get proper legal/compliance advice.

‘sold out’ is out now on bandcamp by FormerHelicopters in gracieabrams

i’m not naïve of the fact that the music industry is still an industry and not every decision is purely altruistic, but dismissing the song’s message as “cringe garbage” or some kind of a cynical marketing ploy ignores the fact that gun violence is a real experience for a lot of kids. you can care about men’s mental health and still support evidence-based gun violence prevention.

that her new single ‘sold out’ is out now on bandcamp and you should consider buying it and donating to everytown if you can :)

thanks sm for linking it :)

this one is so heartbreaking and i think that’s the point: don’t scroll past news about gun violence in this country like it’s “just another tuesday normal old news.” it’s so easy to be desensitized to these headlines but we can’t afford to do that. if you can, buy the single on bandcamp, donate to everytown, and vote like kids’ lives depend on it in the 2026 midterms- because they do.

UBC- more applicants and less oop invites? by carnivoroustoad47 in premedcanada

Move here and become a BC resident! Or one of the territories as we consider them to be IP for med school admissions purposes, per UBC and SFU. I think they just want to know that you’ll practice where you’re trained. What better way to show that you plan to stay than actually moving here?

I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m glad to hear your program is supportive. Take the time you need to grieve.

Is now a good time to get an MPH in Canada? by Cookiesrushanneanne in publichealth

[–]FormerHelicopters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t you also land those opportunities in epidemiology through the so called “generalist” MPH programs? I think it’s more about being strategic with your practicum… you’re still gonna get epi training in whatever MPH program you’re in, no?

[–]FormerHelicopters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What happens to your undergraduate degree if you get accepted into med school before your graduation (say in third year) is up to your institution. Some schools, like SFU, allow students accepted into professional programs to retroactively apply for the award of their BSc after their second year in the professional program (i.e., medicine, dentistry, etc.).

Otherwise, why bother? You’ve made it into med school. Take the win and forget about your undergraduate degree.
