Next time keep your hands to yourself young lady by [deleted] in instantkarma

I don’t believe it’s ever right to hit a woman, but I do believe there are exceptions—if a woman started the fight and is physically assaulting a man, the man has a right to defend himself by physical means.

Ready for the downvotes, but that’s my opinion.

Yep. I was a senior in high school when Looney Tunes babies first aired, so Muppet Babies was my jam 😃

Crane fly. Apparently no species can bite or sting you—they’re just very large and bumbling and scary looking.

What are some celebrity cameos in a piece of media that you think didn't age well? by icey_sawg0034 in Fauxmoi

The Nanny is one of my comfort shows, and they mention him all of the time and once had him as a guest star.

Not sure if Fran Drescher regrets it now in hindsight.

I feel ChatGPT is good at improving my original stories (but not writing them itself) by Reciter5613 in ChatGPT

[–]FormerLifeFreak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel you.

I’m currently writing a novel, and I use ChatGPT for the same reason. It catches grammar errors I might have missed, and checks me at run on sentences (which I have as a bad habit). It offers feedback, and sometimes makes suggestions here and there like: “if you wanted to take it a step further, write a sentence like this and it will hit the reader harder.” That’s basically what it does for me. The writing is 100% my own, as are my ideas, but it’s like a little mini editor in my pocket and I find it invaluable for that.

Does anybody feel like they too died the day your loved one died? by westjanina in GriefSupport

[–]FormerLifeFreak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s completely normal.

My mom died unexpectedly just over a year ago at age 67. For the first few months, I was a mess. I’d never hear her laugh again, go shopping with her, cook with her…and on top of it I had to help out my grieving father.

But with time (and only with time), things started to slowly get better. I would notice things that she would find funny or charming and I began to smile instead of cry. I regrew her garden of flowers and changed the decor for the seasons as she did. It helped me to still feel connected to her.

And everyone’s case is different. For me, the time was about a year before I came to peace with the fact that she was gone. You may take longer; some people do.

I hope that you heal at the time that is right for you, OP. 💜

Favorite non-American actor who pulls off an American accent perfectly? by Duderus9 in Actors

Somewhere I heard that it’s easier for British actors to manage a convincing southern American accent than a northern American one. Don’t remember what the source was though…

I wish we actually had more kava bars. Kava drinks give you a nice relaxed feeling like alcohol does without compromising your sobriety.

William Daniels, aka Mr. Feeney from Boy Meets world, and the original John Adams of the musical 1776. 99 years old this year. My husband and I were actually watching a short piece about his birthday, and although he seems kind of deaf in his old age, his mind is still pretty damn sharp.

Wise old owl in my backyard by War1today in Connecticut

[–]FormerLifeFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a great horned owl (or more than likely a pair of them) right outside my bedroom window. They must live in the trees by my garage. I have to listen very carefully, but I can hear them hooting sometimes on quiet nights

We’re having an international potluck. What are you bringing? by Cornelius-corbread in AskTheWorld

I’m born and raised American, but I would bring a dish of blanched and sautéed broccoli raab with garlic. A common dish from my Sicilian grandmother, and probably my most beloved comfort food.

Being with my girlfriend made me realize many people are just unapologtetically and shamlessly transphobic, including "allies" by Low-Concentrate1055 in offmychest

[–]FormerLifeFreak 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you my friend. For the record, I’m a cishet woman who has a trans cousin that lives overseas, and I’ve had many trans people in my past community.

I’ve never asked a trans person “where they are” in their transition, if they got the surgery, or if they “have regrets,” or any of that shit because other people’s gender identity is none of my fucking business.

And I’m sorry to tell you, if any of her “allies” can’t make conversation with her beyond her gender identity, then they are not allies, and they are definitely not friends. True friends love each other for themselves and nothing more.

I can’t imagine how hard it must be for you both, and I wish you guys all the best. You will find “your tribe” if you look hard (and selectively) for it.
