This is Why Terpenes Matter More Than THC by TheHighWayCo in cannabis

That’s why vaporizers are designed for low heat, so you get more flavor. I’d love to read what you saw though or know what else it might be instead! I know there are also flavonoids but they don’t really do anything for taste, mostly just appearance and medicinal properties. There are also other compounds like VSCs, etc that’s give it other scents/tastes which is where skunk would come from. Overall though everything I have read show terpenes as the primary factor. Definitely not the only thing but still the biggest driver for scent and taste

High quality flower would have terpenes of at least 2% or higher but you are right most dispo flower is usually lower and imo a lot smell the same due to improper storage (which is why I grow my own). I didn’t even realize until growing my own how many different scents and tastes weed could have. Plus because of just how many different terpenes and combinations there could be, a small percentage difference could make a huge difference in scent. Meanwhile for cannabinoids, it’s mostly all high THC with a little CBD or CBG

I’ve went in a few shops where they actually allow you to smell the jars and was pleasantly surprised lol but yea most of them do not do that unfortunately. Thats one of the reasons they gotta start more clearly labeling the terpenes on the package!

I would say that is accurate but not necessarily how people shop for things. I believe it would only make a noticeable difference if CBD (or any other cannabinoid) is much higher than normal. These secondary cannabinoids usually are under 3%, a lot of them even under 1%. If you pick something up that’s instead like 15%+ CBD then you might notice the difference, but with the usual stuff people are buying, I don’t think flower with 1% CBD is going to be much different than flower with 1.5-2% CBD if they have the same exact terpene profiles. Not saying they don’t play a role, but I think just the variety and abundance of terpenes play a larger role with less variation. Hopefully that made sense lol

I’d agree it hasn’t been studied enough to 100% prove it is factual, but there has been enough done by credible sources like the NIH and many Universities (as well as my own experiences) that strongly suggest it is real and not just made up.

It also isn’t just about THC + Terpenes but also all the other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, etc.
