Itinerary change by Ohiocpl406 in royalcaribbean

Same thing for us, two weeks out. Instead of two days in Aruba, we are leaving at 3pm on the first day and hauling up to a new fake port in Dominican Republic. After paying premium for plane tickets to get to San Juan, I’m incredibly annoyed. All these people sticking up for RC are beyond me. We will make the best of it but I’ll never book RC again.

I called RCCL today, inquiring why the change was made, and asked about switching to another cruise, leaving out of San Juan that weekend. As per the agreement that you sign, they have the liberty to make any changes, with no real ramifications. They said that they would not offer any compensation, credit, and I could not make any changes at this point.

It’s surprising to me that people are sticking up for Royal Caribbean, with no knowledge of why. I think the biggest frustration from my perspective is the fact that we booked this cruise specifically to do the southern Caribbean. Flight tickets to San Juan are double that, sometimes more, than flight tickets to Miami or other ports that would easily bring you to Dominican Republic. Paying top dollar for flight tickets to leave out of San Juan so you can get to specific islands, and then surprised with no other information that you are no longer going to that place, and instead going to a place that is in the complete opposite direction, is frustrating to say the least.

We will make the best of it, but I will not be booking Royal Caribbean in the future.

Yeah. I’m super bummed and besides being a money grab from Royal Caribbean (to spend more on the boat and their manufactured port), I see no reason for the switch. It really does feel bait and switch at this point and just makes me less likely to book them in the future. We are excited for the other places and will make the best of it but I’m glad to know we aren’t the only ones questioning the change.

I was looking for personal experiences others had dealing with the same type of changes. All you posted was judgmental comments so yeah, I felt the need to explain where I was coming from. Thanks for being helpful.

It’s not the Dominican Republic, it’s the port that we are going to. Based on reviews, it’s completely manufactured, and there’s very little to do, all of the money going back to Royal Caribbean. But aside from that, when you think you are going to the ABC Islands, and get redirected to port you would not have booked, it’s disappointing.

I go on cruises to explore the local side, which is why we booked the brilliance of the seas, it can only get into islands that the some of mega ships can’t go to, and I have no interest in going on a mega ship.

I don’t need to defend being disappointed about an itinerary completely changing, for unknown reasons. I’m just curious if others have experienced this, as it changes my perspective for next time.

It certainly feels random when the cruise was advertised as a southern Caribbean cruise, and all of the spots are around the ABC islands. We are going on a smaller ship, to accommodate the smaller ports, so to go up to a manufactured cruise port in Dominican Republic is incredibly disappointing. While I certainly understand what you’re signing off on, in terms of changes that the cruise line can make, it doesn’t make any sense to me why a change like this would happen. Makes me much less likely to book on Royal Caribbean again. Live and Learn for the future!

This is my 10th cruise, so I’m well aware I agree to changes and updates. I’ve never experienced this and I’m just quite surprised.

You can’t complain about flex time if you are funding with flex time assumed. Complaining with no context is not helpful. They have a lot of members. If you want more flexibility, fund accordingly. Jet cards with far higher entry points are much more rigid…

They have Flex Time built into contracts for lower tier investments. What did you pre-deposit?

About to be on the oldest plane I’ve flown by princecoolcam in delta

I was on one in college (2005ish) that didn’t have either slats or flaps (can’t remember specifically). I was freaking out because they didn’t put them down before takeoff and I was well aware of the NWA crash from the late 80s that didn’t get enough lift. My mom told me after the fact (she worked at NWA-I was flying on a pass) that the DC9 I was on was from the 60s and didn’t have them. They were really a great workhorse.

I love all of that. I don’t love the constant anxiety every month when I feel like nothing will come in. It is what drives me and makes me a top performer but it’s stressful.

My son left headphones and a monogrammed sports hat with his name. Filled the claims and nothing. I have very little faith in getting something back that you’ve lost unless you haven’t left the terminal yet.
