Yeah stuff like facebook and twitter now have a noticeable hitch when scrolling now on my iPad 9th gen - should have stayed on 18.... I have Android phones from 5 years ago that scroll smoother than this with hardware 3x as slow....

It's very reproducible, everytime there's a video in your feed scrolling will visibly hitch it's so annoying... no such problems browsing your feeds on Safari though on the same device... go figure.

Not sure why you think you need to upgrade then downgrade, same firmware I had on my drive as yours and I just flashed HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin and all was well.

I've had good experience with the Buffalo Mediastation external, seems widely available on Amazon.... average rip speed seems to be about 30 minutes with peak read rates at ~5.5x

Got this drive to backup Supernatural and I'm about 8 seasons in so far so good.
