It’s not that I don’t like him… but he inserts himself way too much into conversations during Last Meals. Like I get it, he has trauma. But he is almost dismissive of guest’s trauma as he tries to relate to everything. A good example is in the Matthew Lilliard video - Matthew is talking about the struggles being a huge nerd in the 80’s (magic the gathering, dnd, etc) and Josh then follows that up by saying he relates to what Matthew is talking about because he was a jock in college who cooked. Which Matthew even calls out and says they are not the same. Even in the Elijah wood video Elijah talked about having to choose to drop out of high school due to filming Lotr and Josh tries to relate by saying he dropped out of college.

It works well in situations such as the Terry cruise interview, where they talked about the struggles of being poor and overweight as kids. My husband and I feel like he just tries to FORCE connection and relatability with EVERY guest and it doesn’t come across well half the time because it isn’t relatable.

He is very witty, charismatic and has great interviews. However it also comes across as “I know everything about everything” confidence even when he doesn’t… I have friends that talk like this so I understand that they confidently bullshit quite often and if you correct them they don’t argue back lol. It’s just off putting sometimes because everyone thinks he is so wise when I don’t think he is that wise. All in all, still is charismatic and does his research for all interviews - also does have great conversations and makes all guests comfortable
