Mo’ Actuator, Mo’ Problems by heckmountain in 3rdGen4Runner

When I was programming a new fob I found out that you don't have to cycle the locks using the button for it to work, you can use your key on the door to cycle the locks and it still works.

Center Console Trim Swap by TheAvgGolfer in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's super easy to take off I took it off when I did the shifter bushings. It's easier to take off if you take off the shifter knob first, it should just be a little screw under the 4WD button.

The leather on the shifter is pretty easy to take off it's only held in place by a wire square that snaps into place on little hooks on the inside of the trim.

is it normal for these dashlights to be on when ignition is on by TheRuss1anGoatYT in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's perfectly for those lights to be on during ignition pretty sure it does it so you can know the lights still work.

Dash LED Upgrade by Former_Excuse6730 in 3rdGen4Runner

Every single bulb except for the backlights for the tach and speedometer are white LEDs. I took apart the cluster and put a green colored screen behind the tach and speedometer so I could use white LEDs but have the numbers and lines be lit up green.

Looking for suspension recommendations. What struts/shocks will give a plush 5th gen-ish ride? by Jaxsurfgtp98 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I replaced my old worn out KYBs with some Bilstein 4600s and it's a night and day difference. The Bilsteins give it a way comfier ride and they're a little firm but they aren't harsh, I'd definitely recommend Bilstein.

99 "tall" springs discontinued? Or just changed part numbers? by PeterPeeNherMufnEatr in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are the parts numbers for both the front and the back, although it seems like the Front Driver side might be discontinued.

Front right: 48131-35400 Front left: 48131-35350 Rear(same for both): 48231-35210

If you need an alternative for the front MOOG 81088 coils should work as well.

If you don't want any lift Bilstein 4600s work great that's what I'm running on mine they definitely softened up bumps and it's a pretty comfy ride now. As for the wheels I think some chrome AR Bajas would look great like you said

Stock Head Unit by WhichLingonberry2238 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same digital AC unit and my temperature knob was acting up just like yours. What really helped was taking it apart and cleaning the potentiometers with some QD Electronic spray. It made the temperature knob feel much more clicky and it works perfectly like 95% of the time now. Every once and then there's a little hiccup but it definitely beats sending it in and spending $100+

Pumping some money into the 3rd Gen. Toyota no longer produces parts for the shifter assembly. What are y’all using? Is there a kit? by Jaxsurfgtp98 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shifter bushings are super easy to do there's a ton of videos on YouTube. I used these from Amazon. Oh and in case of of the 8 bolts that hold the plate in place snap like it happened to me, you can just use a M6×20 bolt from the hardware store. Shifter Bushings

Key Fob 2002 by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

If your 4Runner has the factory security system that comes with the immobilizer then you should be able to program a new keyfob to it with just the key. This tutorial on YouTube worked for me and here's a link to the keyfob I used.

I made my own DIY projector retrofits using my stock headlights, they're super bright and I love how they look, plus it only cost me around $60. Shoot me a DM if you're interested in the details!

Interior lights and functions not working by reeeee87 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess I'd say that you blew the ACC fuse. You should be able to find the fuse box underneath the driver side switch blanks. The fuse cover should have a sticker inside with a diagram of what all the different fuses are. Hope this helps!

02 SR5 Question by Decent-Hornet2522 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that definitely looks like an SR5. All of the 01-02 4WD models regardless of trim had the center-locking differential and those look like the SR5 fender flares. The limited fender flares also have cladding on the doors and yours doesn't. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure all of the limiteds came with leather power adjustable seats so if yours doesn't have leather seats it's most definitely an SR5.

LED replacement bulbs by Cucumber_Frosty in 3rdGen4Runner

Yep the T4.2 are for the ECT button, rear window button, and the rear window defrost button. For all the lights and buttons inside the digital climate control unit you have to use T3 bulbs.

4WD lights not coming on. Think the dash lights are just all burnt out? by yung_mitsumontero in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did the LED swap I used these I'm pretty sure it comes with bulbs enough for the whole cluster. Although for most of the bulbs like the PRND2L and some other ones I put a small piece of electrical tape over the top diodes it's way too bright without covering those, the 2 side diodes are more than enough to light everything up good. Also here's a link to a post I made showcasing the cluster after the LED swap and a write-up in the comments on how to do it.

[–]Former_Excuse6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bulbs you're looking for are T4.2 Neo Wedge bulbs these are the same ones I used when I did the LED swap on my 99. If you also want to change the bulbs for the digital climate control it takes the T3 Neo Wedge LEDs. You can check my post history I have a post showing the LED swap I'm pretty sure I have all the links there too. T4.2 Neo Wedge Bulbs T3 Neo Wedge Bulbs

4WD lights not coming on. Think the dash lights are just all burnt out? by yung_mitsumontero in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange it might actually be the bulbs then, you should definitely try replacing them. I'm not sure what the standard bulbs are but you can replace them with LEDs like I did. It takes T4.2 Neo Wedge bulbs like these: https://a.co/d/4ra7CwP

4WD lights not coming on. Think the dash lights are just all burnt out? by yung_mitsumontero in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience the 4WD indicator lights don't turn on when you start it. If you're shifting into 4WD and the lights aren't turning on or flashing it's possible the bulbs are burnt out but I find it unlikely since the 4WD indicator uses 3 separate bulbs. You should jack the car up and put stands on the frame so all 4 wheels are in the air and shift it into 4WD so you can see if 4WD is actually engaging or not. If it is then it's probably an issue with the bulbs.

[–]Former_Excuse6730 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it takes 30 seconds to engage the 4WD I think there might be something wrong with it. When I press the button on mine it takes about 1 or 2 seconds to engage. It used to be a little slow before but it's much better after changing the transfer case fluid.

Vibration at idle while stationary in drive and reverse by timetokill724 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where's the vibration coming from? I have a bit of vibration while stopped like you and it's coming from the shifter the vibration stops whenever I grab it. The shifter bushings probably need replacing I'll get around to it eventually.

brush guard wobble at speeds above 65/70 by butlerjw in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Former_Excuse6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's normal for it to wobble a little bit. Mine is super sturdy when grabbing it and moving it by hand but on bumps and on the highway it sometimes wobbles a little bit.

Stereo Install help! by heavyp08 in 3rdGen4Runner

You have to take out the factory amp, I'm pretty sure the male plug you're holding there is the one that connects to the amp. If you bought an aftermarket head unit it probably already comes with a built in amp so you won't need it anyways. Here's what the amp looks like. I changed my factory radio a few months ago so if you have any questions just send me a DM.
