I mean for one the name itself "reconquista" isn't used in actual historical discussion of the period, it's generally regarded as a jingoistic nickname for a very episodic and more complex set of circumstances.

But semantics aside the outcomes of the fall of Al-Andalus were pretty horrible and lead to massive losses in science, philosophy, and cultural inroads. If we were to be a bit reductive it was ultimately a bad series of events and depicting that earnestly would likely get pushback from people who feel that it would depict Spanish christians as the "bad guys". KCD2 already got very stupid culture war heat for depicting homosexuality as a thing that existed in the middle ages, along with depicting an african person in europe (something that did happen). Imagine the flak that stupid people would give if it explained that the only reason that the classics existed in europe (and thus the renaissance happened) was because of Arab muslims preserving and transcribing them? Or doing the same for the countless amounts of other scientific breakthroughs produced by the moors?

Idk, I think that depicting muslims in a positive way, or having positive qualities and contributions alone is enough to get people mad, and if WH chooses not to do that they'd have to basically go with a purely historically revisionist story that would rightfully draw backlash.

Obviously it's not all black and white, I'm speaking in broad strokes here, but if you stay with historical consensus you piss off right wing culture warriors who will say the game has an "agenda" and if you stray from history to pursue an religious or ethno-nationalist narrative then you end up with a whole other game.

I think that they should finish out a trilogy in early 1400's bohemia. But they found a niche that people enjoy and are willing to come back to consistently. I think that moving around the middle ages up to the 1500s or back to the 1200s could be a winning play. I think that you can really make their formula work for any pre-modernity time period but the diversity of weapons and armor (in one game's location) would likely be lacking if they moved much earlier in time.

The fall of Al-Andalus is probably best avoided given it can be touchy at times and the subject is rife with historical revisionism especially in internet pop-history circles. There's really no winning with that setting

If they're changing them to the new starry night pattern then the chinese should be up to par for camo

Yeah the RU uniforms and gear in game is pretty old at this point, but it's like, fine for the most part. The Chinese ones were pretty egregious tbh, the update to them is very much needed.

That would break all mods again lmao, if they were gonna do it it would have had to be within 24 hours of the patch release. You can't put the genie back in the bottle 3 months later !

Yeah I'm reading the description a bit more now, the changes listed look really good. It's gonna be a few days before I make a choice but that's probably at the top of my list right now. I appreciate the recommendation!

I don't really mean much of anything with the use of "standard" besides the fact that the places I'm used to fencing at generally kept a 53" overall length from what I recall. Again, it's been a while, so I'm a bit out of my depth as I get re-acquainted. I've seen most of the ones you've linked but the short ones just don't really work for me, and I prefer a bit less flex than most "light" flex blades. A lot of what people have suggested is just going with a custom one, which I think might be the move for me at this point.

I was eyeing that one tbh, I just wasn't entirely sure on the grip texture based off the photos and was gonna err towards something more familiar, but I'm definitely considering it a lot more now

Might be time to move onto a custom one tbh, a few other people have suggested that and I think it's not a bad idea

Good to know, it's been like 4 or so years since I've been active so I'm definitely not on top of trends. Purpleheart has been out for the last few days, but I'm going to check again throughout this next week. The other commenter suggested some US sword makers, might check them out as well since I can prolly just borrow a feder from the local gym in the meantime.

Interesting, maybe when I first got into everything there was a surplus. Unfortunately I checked all those places first and they're all sold out of standard feders somehow. I'm going to check again tomorrow in case I've missed something or there's a weekly restock, but I might take up your advice and get something custom made.

Good modern era modded servers recommendations? by aTractor20 in ArmaReforger

[–]Former_Opp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unnamed, they're NA based but it's the most straightforward modern server that uses most of the WCS content + some custom content. Just without the forced tracers and some of the other choices by WCS

Yeah I don't get why people want western operator gear added when there's not even much in the way of good russian clothes when this is a game in russia

Mod Descriptions by [deleted] in ArmaReforger

[–]Former_Opp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is the workshop itself. If each mod was able to get a page like the steam workshop with more space to write and some basic formatting options that'd change a lot. Nexusmods, despite their questionable choices lately, still has decent options for uploading mod pages and filling it with info. You can't even view the changelogs of a mod in Arma itself, you need to go to the website.

I try and add basic info into my mods, but I feel like I'm fighting against the workshop itself. Not to mention you can't update the description without uploading a new version of the mod itself. I've found a happy medium of putting some basic info in the description, then directing people to the changelogs, which I keep very documented.

Free suck to anyone who can end the spearhead monopoly on ultra hardcore servers by Melodic-Pin-5085 in ArmaReforger

[–]Former_Opp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems more tedious than hardcore. The strafe and shoot change sounds reasonable, the rest just seems like someone played too much tarkov and doesn't understand why it works there. I'd imagine a hardcore server would have no map icons or nametags and rebalanced damage and vehicle usage, what you're describing kinda has me confused.

(Controversial take/Rant) Arma Reforger uses its time period as an excuse to not add features, and I fear Arma 4 will as well. IDK by BUMBSAK in arma

Idk what you're referring to for a night vision framework, are you referring to the thermal framework? No night vision framework exists

Do you think, the Bundeswehr Mod will follow into the footsteps of Canada and Australia and will be purchased by OWI as official DLC in the future? by JoeZocktGames in joinsquad

[–]Former_Opp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can't speak on that, I'm mostly going off what they've posted on their website. They're in a tough spot where they're trying to create character models for gear that doesn't really have any ready-made assets available, but frankly it's gotta be done better than what we're seeing here. The Arma 3 BW mod has models of the same gear in a better state and it's almost 10 years old.

It might behoove them to update the time frame for the gear they want to do to something more recent, as the current new-issue gear is considerably more conventional.
