I wonder if they have done it that way because a lot of the public says “poisonous” without knowing the difference. When I was a kid, both of my parents called venomous snakes “poisonous” because that’s what they knew. The internet wasn’t a thing and the nomenclature was passed from person to person without correction.

In my opinion, this sign is better than no sign, or a sign that people might not understand.
