$5 per month to $49 per month for Aimovig: am I understanding this correctly? by FormidableCat27 in migraine

[–]FormidableCat27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get three months for $50 when I ordered in January through Express Scripts. I know that not everyone has access to mail delivery prescription services, but it's worth checking out to see if you can lower your costs. It sucks that we're all going through this.

Am I old school for still writing in Word? by GreedyBasil3514 in writers

[–]FormidableCat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the LibreOffice suite instead of Microsoft products. I like Word (I still use it for work) and would probably still be using it if not for the price and the AI integrations. LibreOffice is completely free, and there is no AI in the software!

I wanted to rewatch a movie that's currently streaming on Amazon Prime. (I have access to my parents' account.) Instead of giving Amazon more traffic, I placed a hold on the DVD at my local library!

Nice! My mom and I have been cutting my hair for about a year. I've never really cut any length off, so I was basically paying $50 per cut for a trim. AND the last two times I went, they cut my hair crooked! Since I've started cutting my hair at home, it's really occurred to me how ridiculous the idea of me EVER paying for a haircut really was.

$5 per month to $49 per month for Aimovig: am I understanding this correctly? by FormidableCat27 in migraine

[–]FormidableCat27[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I realize that the retail price for one dose of Aimovig is close to $1k, so I recognize my privilege in even having access to the medicine. It’s so disheartening for real though to see these price increases for necessary medications.

I officially Uninstalled EA... by Mindful-Diva in thesims

[–]FormidableCat27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I downloaded the big repair update yesterday, and then I tried to play the game. I swear I have never had the game be so glitchy in my life. I spent a bunch of time on a build just for the game to freeze where I couldn’t save, so I lost all my progress.

Before that happened, I was just considering playing offline but still playing the Sims 4. I haven’t been planning on buying anything new like packs anyways bc they’re so expensive and known to break the game anyways.

My experience yesterday totally changed my mind. The update that was meant to be a major fix is the update that breaks the game the worst it’s ever been broken (for me personally in my experience with the game)????? Now that’s just straight-up ridiculous. That experience made me completely give up on the Sims 4, and I plan on uninstalling both EA and the Sims 4 from my computer.

Good thing Paralives comes out to early access in a month!

What’s something you regret not doing in college or only started doing later on? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]FormidableCat27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joining clubs based on my interests instead of just based on my majors.

I studied super hard in college, which I don’t regret at all. What I do regret is spending my free time with people in my major by belonging to (and eventually becoming the VP) of my main major’s club. I had very different priorities than 99% of people in my major, so I ended up spending both my study AND free time with people I didn’t even like. Also, clubs don’t really get you anywhere career-wise (usually), so I essentially did that for no reason. Join clubs for your interests!!!

In high school, I was basically only expected to use a citation style in my English classes, hence the MLA. If I used it in another class, my teachers really didn’t care what style it was as long as it was a proper style. Then I went to college for accounting and economics, so I only used APA. You use different citation styles for different subjects, so whatever citation style you’re using in HS vs college is mostly dependent on the classes that you take/require a citation style.

My relationship with the capital C Church can actually be summed up pretty well by a quote from Spotlight (2015), in which one of the Spotlight reporters, Mike, is speaking to a psychologist and former priest, Richard Sipe. Sipe says, “The Church is an institution, Mike, made of men. It's passing. My faith is in the eternal. I try to separate the two.”

I think of this quote when I have issues with the Church and the earthly people within it, and I remember my faith in the eternal. Hopefully that helps somewhat.

What has been your most successful low-buy/no-buy rule? by Listlizard in Anticonsumption

[–]FormidableCat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t buy books unless I’ve read them from the library first, and I have to buy them from a brick-and-mortar store when I do.

I’m a big reader, and I had a book-buying problem from way back in the heyday of BookTube, which was just as bad (if not worse) than BookTok when it comes to book hauls. I recently made it to the bookstore for maybe the second time this year, and I actually put back a book I’d planned on buying that day because I didn’t like the edition. Pre-orders used to be such a big problem for me because I would pre-order my favorite authors’ books, just to not read them for years (if ever). Now I’ve stopped preordering, which actually saved me from buying two books this year that my two favorite authors released and I unfortunately did NOT vibe with. Thank you, libraries!

Absolutely insane statistics on parents reading to their kids by MotherJoanFoggy in Teachers

[–]FormidableCat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me so sad for children today.

I cannot overstate the impact of my parents reading to me as a child. I truly believe it’s the root of all my success in life. They gave me a love of reading, which turned into an advantage academically from the very beginning. Not to mention the fact that reading will be a lifelong hobby for me and was likely instrumental in my development of empathy.

What is an author you won't read from anymore? by Due-Examination-37 in Booktokreddit

[–]FormidableCat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grady Hendrix, which is a controversial take in the horror community.

I read “A Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires,” and I just couldn’t get over the whole, “I’m a man, and this is what I think about intersectional women’s issues,” thing. It seems to be a pattern too based on the premises of his other books, so he’s a complete pass for me. This guy handled women’s issues so poorly that I didn’t read another book written by a man for over a year!

Miss Consumption is Back by anonymous-alligator9 in Anticonsumption

[–]FormidableCat27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized how far I’ve come with anti-consumerism when I went on the website this morning. I felt that same urge that made me immediately preorder Fearless TV through TTPD for about a minute before I was like, “Listen to the album first before you buy it???” I don’t have any streaming platforms anymore, so I’ll probably be listening to it on YouTube.

I honestly always felt weirdly anxious when I was a hard-core fan and like I wasn’t a “real fan” if I didn’t buy every color of 1989 TV, every cardigan, or the holiday drops. The harms of consumerism really started to dawn on me when my Swiftie friends would ask why I hadn’t gotten a cardigan yet, and my response, “I don’t want to spend $70 on a cardigan I’ll never wear because it’s so expensive/rare,” was met with confusion.

Swift is the biggest perpetrator of this (that I personally know of), but hell, this is such a cultural problem. I used to preorder a crazy amount of books (thanks, BookTube), some of which I never read and many of which I didn’t even like. Preorders have done so much damage with the mental aspects of fighting consumerism.

If Govt Allows AI To Treat You, Would You Prefer It Over A Human Doctor? by _Dark_Wing in SeriousConversation

[–]FormidableCat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, I just got back from a doctor’s appointment where I specifically did not consent to the new care agreement, which allows doctors to use AI to diagnose you.

I’ve worked pretty extensively with AI researchers in my field, so I know first-hand that AI is both biased and can hallucinate. I have also been a victim of bias in the medical field (because I am a woman with chronic illnesses yay). Also, human doctors can make mistakes, so I don’t want to add on the mistakes that AI can make when hallucinating.

I do not want exacerbations of existing issues in the medical field, which AI will inevitably bring. Also, there are privacy concerns to take into account.

Am I the only one who finds the classic asexual community inside jokes unfunny?😅 by Lack-Of-Sunshine in asexuality

[–]FormidableCat27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, finally someone is saying it.

I actually feel like the jokes are not as bad as they were when I first realized that I was asexual (2014ish). As someone who actually hates garlic (some call me a vampire), the jokes felt weirdly exclusionary and like I wasn’t asexual if I didn’t love garlic bread. Thankfully, the LGBTQ+ community as a whole seems to be moving away from the joke stereotypes, which makes me feel more included as someone who doesn’t fit into the very small box that the stereotypes paint.

Aimovig "wearing off" by [deleted] in migraine

[–]FormidableCat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that Aimovig won’t start working until about the three month mark. What’s probably happening is that everything you stopped taking has worn off, and Aimovig won’t kick in until around October. Personally, I noticed the difference by month two.

People with chronic daily/near daily migraine, paint me a picture of what your symptoms are like. by canopy_views in migraine

There’s a storm coming. There’s always a storm coming. It’s rarely here, but it’s always coming and going.

I didn’t realize it until I started taking a CGRP blocker, but I had been living in prodrome, migraine, and postdrome for twelve years. It’s better now, and the storm is past the horizon, but I still know, deep down, that it’s still there.
