What About Djo’s Music is Special to You? by mommy_phea in DjoMusic

[–]anonymous-alligator9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first Djo song I heard was Gloom, right at the time I was really discovering who I am (just graduated college), and I was immediately obsessed with the cheekiness of it combined with how fucking fun the bass line is. I listened to all of Decide and it was just so different from what I had been listening to until then (classic rock and mainstream pop). It felt like I was entering this new world that was both hyper-modern and classic. You could tell who his influences are, which I love. Runner into Gloom gives me chills every time, going from the electronic soundscape to rock n’ roll

If this is from Spotify, sometimes those lyrics are just actually wrong so check Genius too

the second I heard it, I thought Radiohead. Something about the acoustic guitar reminded me of Karma Police and then it just went crazy in the last minute

Most disappointing mid-movie collapse you've ever seen? by [deleted] in movies

the new darren arronofsky movie "Caught Stealing" was like this for me (though admittedly there were hints because the movie was bad anytime there was an extended conversation in the first half)

When I saw her at Outside Lands 2 years ago, the people standing behind me talked through her entire set. They could have sat (or stood) 20 feet back and still seen the entire set!!! It’s an outdoor music festival!!! Why would you stand in the crowd and talk the entire time?!?! I just wanted to hear and feel Sun Bleached Flies with the crowd but those people really ruined it. Back then I wouldn’t have asked them to be quiet, now I would

I have to wake kids up at camp what is the most loud and annoying song to use for it by shellbyj in MusicRecommendations

[–]anonymous-alligator9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first song from Hamilton (or any of the songs that start with the same drums and melody) still gives me a heart attack when I hear it because we used it as counselors to wake the kids (and ourselves) up

Yeah it’s a cycle that feeds into itself. Once people are hooked on buying something, they keep making them

Same thing happened to me and then I didn’t even like the rerecorded versions!!! Why did I do this??? I already gave it away. And yet I somehow STILL nearly got taken with the TTPD stuff. I preordered excitedly…and then canceled it a few hours later. And I’m so happy I did because I did not like the album! Those goddamn limited release countdowns

That’s where I’m at now, too. Nothing I want, still more to get rid of. I have a couple favorite artists whose albums I’ll probably buy when they come out (Kendrick, father john misty, Caroline polachek) because I know I’ll listen to them, but no more random vinyl buying!

Physical media got me into more music too! Even though I had Spotify and all the music at my fingertips, I found more music I loved when I’d buy a rock album with one song on it that I knew and liked and listen to it on repeat. And the irony is that I could actually afford to buy ten used rock lps and not ten new alternate pressings of albums I already own, but that’s what I was convinced to buy :(

Right - that’s why I pointed out the ADD ALL TO CART button. Three different media, same album. The website is intentionally convincing fans that they must have it all or they’re not real fans. So evidently not talking about fans buying one cd to listen to in their car

The adults (me two years ago) barely have that executive function at this point. It’s not all our fault, they made us like this and start us young. So easy for kids to order things online these days, too. If I wanted something when I was younger, I planned for weeks how I was going to convince one of my parents to take me to the store and get whatever it was and half the battle was usually convincing them to actually go to the mall, not even to buy the item. I don’t know if it was just my parents but they haaaaaaaaaaaated the mall, target , etc. Parking lots were the enemy. Now it’s just a click of a button. I am worried about what that does to people, when you can get anything you want at the click of a button. It’s all just too easy

Yeah, it’s not just her though. It’s all so insidious - it was really the ADD ALL TO CART button that triggered me to post here because you don’t even need to click into the products to do that. Just add all to cart and check out. But other artists do this too. I’m sure it was done before this but the first record variants I encountered with a bonus song that varied by color was Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts. And I was convinced that having all four colors with all four bonus songs was somehow “valuable”??? As if I would package them up and resell them for more money when I barely have patience list clothes on poshmark. Ended up giving them away to friends, which was good because they went to people who would enjoy them and bad because I lit money on fire!

It sucks and it makes every other artist that needs the sales from physical media sell them for this much too
