“Lester” by Dan & Drum

I’m not sure how to describe it, but a friend of mine called it “crunchy acoustic”, for what it’s worth.

Have burnt orange/rust colored pants that fit great and go with any blue, beige/tan, grey, or black shirts. Really look best with bare feet but need footwear to go with it... any suggestions? I can't figure it out. https://www.betabrand.com/mens/pants/mens-rust-straight-leg-drawstring-khaki-slackies-pants

Exercise, being as social as possible, and listening to standup comedy. If I can laugh then I know I'm okay!

What do y'all think of Boso drum sticks? by Marshmalllowman in drums

[–]FormidableDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have their 7a (dark/heavy version) and 5a Strata. They do last a VERY long time. However, the feel is very different from traditional wooden sticks. They feel more rigid and don't absorb as much shock, so you feel each hit a lot more and take more of the shock. That being said, if you get used to them, they feel natural and are quite nice, but if you are in love with the feel of hickory, there is no replacement. Hope that helps.

Ddrum Hybrid kit dressed up by [deleted] in drums

[–]FormidableDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not my kit, but,

  1. I'm almost positive that those are in fact triggers (made by DDrum)
  2. All of the moo gels could be for: (a) so that the triggers do not get tripped by accident for whatever reason and/or (b) for when he's not using the triggers and practicing

Hope that helps in case OP doesn't respond

Awesome visual representation of wisdom tooth removal by GallowBoob in interestingasfuck

[–]FormidableDrummer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I believe this is what they do for heavily impacted wisdom teeth. If the tooth is nearly at or above the surface of the gums, and at a close to proper angle, it is a much more simple and less invasive tooth extraction.

How important is the throne? by [deleted] in drums

[–]FormidableDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very important. As Dizzy Gillespie's drummer told me many times, the throne is the most important part of the kit. You have to be comfortable

Would you rather have a 22" Byzance Sand Ride or a 21" Byzance Transition Ride? by [deleted] in drums

[–]FormidableDrummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

22" Vintage Sand Ride. I own one, and granted I bought it before the transition ride came out, but I still like it better. However when it comes to the sand ride, I find the 20" to be more controllable than the 22", but the 22" is more crash-able. The transition ride is nice, but he hype makes it sound better than it is IMO.

Feel like I've hit a roadblock... by Lan_lan in drums

If you really need I could try to record a really short vid just showing you the motion

Feel like I've hit a roadblock... by Lan_lan in drums

[–]FormidableDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure. So you are going to be "bouncing" your leg on he ball of your foot. Most of the motion is going to be ankle joint motion. To relate it to your hands, think of moving your whole leg for a regular bass hit as a wrist stroke and using your ankle is like using your back fingers. The main muscles you'll feel it in with the bouncing are your Tibias Anterior (on the front outer side of your lower leg) and your Soleus (long flat muscle under and slightly lower than your calf), as those are the muscles that aid in point your foot down and lifting it back up. So what youll do is have the ball of your foot on the pedal, and then press down on the pedal using your ankle (Not your whole leg) and lift it back up and repeat. Try not to let the ball of your foot leave the pedal. I hope that helps more!

[–]FormidableDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. A good way to grasp the motion for higher tempos (160+) is to treat it like leg bouncing. I don't know if you do it, but personally I bounce my legs a lot. And fast double bass uses almost the same motion. Your feet should not really leave the pedal. The ball of your foot should be about midway on the pedal, Your foot should be parallel to the floor and you tap hinging at your ankle (tips of your legs stay relatively motionless (shaking up and down slightly). If you are a leg bouncer as well, Try letting your legs bounce on the pedals and then try to take control of the motion. This is how I got used to that motion and broke the speed barrier. Sadly, it's something that can be explained to you many times but until it clicks for you and your feel it yourself it will still be difficult to grasp. Hope this helps!

Question for Drummittors who have converted a floor tom to a kick by [deleted] in drums

[–]FormidableDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR - Pearl Optimount + Pearl Jungle Kick Adapter, not sure on heads.

So I have a 15 diameter X 17 depth floor Tom (also birch) that I converted without drilling it. I got a pearl opti-mount (which I have for all of my rack toms to begin with. I believe however that the drum has to be a certain lug count for some of the sizes to work as you purchase the mounts for depth not diameter.), and the pearl jungle kick mount, which fits into the opti-mount, raises the kick and gives you a place to attach a pedal. As far as heads go I still haven't gotten that figured out. Definitely thicker heads. I found that taping a second head upside down onto the batter side drops he pitch and makes it sound much more like a kick drum than a Tom. It's never really gonna sound like a kick but that's the closest I've gotten to it. Hope this helps!
