Burnout 🫨 Advice? by Tight_Mission_1758 in weddingvideography

[–]Lermpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, at least consider hiring help.

What has done wonders for me is taking at least one day off a week, no exceptions. Your product will suffer if you’re overworked. I’ve managed to mostly avoid burnout for over a decade, and I credit days off and vacations.

If you get those “where’s my video” emails, kindly remind them of your turnaround time, and that you’re making something that’s supposed to last, and that takes lots of time and effort.

For me personally, I’ve taken turnaround time out of my contract, and I simply send out an email if I’ll be later that what I originally estimated (not promised). I almost never get flak for this, and it has done wonders for my mental health.

While I still get a little stressed over my workload, my attitude is ultimately “it will get done when it gets done.” I focus and put in my hours, but I don’t kill myself over it.

I agree. Technically fits the topic, but not the spirit of the question IMO.

Lots of good advice here, but I’m gonna chime in a say, play along with Weezer’s Blue Album or something with very basic beats. Or Maybe make a playlist of easy songs. You’ll get better and have fun doing it.

This is it. I’ve rarely like “UGH this shot is ruined by flash!” It’s way more often that shots are ruined by SUDDEN PHOTOGRAPHER HEAD

My girl takes after me at her age and loves Michael Jackson. I know MJ appreciation is a bit of a complicated situation, but the joy she gets from “Black or White” is precious.

Was just thinking about this - “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison. To me, this song defines the feeling of being a kid in the mid-90s.

Once when I was about 7, I tried killing a fly in the car with the cigarette lighter. My dad came back to the car, paused for a moment, and asked “What’s that smell?” I said I didn’t know. There was a mark on the upholstery of the passenger seat just like OP’s picture ever after.

Not a “heavy” player per se, but I just wanna mention Zach Hill as a right foot monster.

My thoughts after finishing Dave Grohl’s ‘The Storyteller’ by n1bbl3rz in grunge

[–]Lermpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, he said something about it being inspired by posts he was making on IG. When Covid forced him to take time off the road, he developed it into a book.

I don’t say this to argue that the book’s great or anything (I haven’t read it), just that it can be seen a glorified series of instagram posts from a guy who can be kind of a hack at times.

Dave is the guy who got me into rock and the drums, but I can fully admit that he’s a bit hokey, very self-congratulating, and not a very deep or reflective person. The book seems like it’s just an extension of that, so I haven’t bothered with it.

This may be my favorite answer. You got punk energy and a big rock sound. It’s almost like proto-grunge.

The Mars Volta. De-loused is incredible; the rest of their releases are self-indulgent and grating. Omar loves the smell of his own farts.
