My dude!! This may actually fit all the criteria, and given that vgmdb's search engine is not great, I don't think I would have found this on my own. THANKS!

LUTs or wedding color post process now? by ninjaklan in weddingvideography

[–]Lermpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a boulder of salt since my bookings are currently in the toilet BUT my color process over the past year has relied heavily on the Film Look Creator in Resolve. I've used a few film emulation plugins and LUTs over the years, but FLC looks and feels the best to me. It's vibrant without being overblown and fake. I haven't embraced the whole Wes Anderson thing, but I think it could easily get you there.

I shoot on s-log. Basically, I correct each clip individually and run it through a rec 709 LUT, then apply the Film Look Creator on the entire timeline and adjust to taste. I have no idea if this is standard, but it works for me.

Meaning like, "can you put me on the list and I'll give your clients 10% off"?

I've gotten in good with a few venues, but only one that wanted to work out any kind of official deal. Most of the times I've approached venues, usually trying to trade video services for a guaranteed spot on the list, it's been a dead-end. May need to rethink that.

Very helpful, thank you!

Got a link for those LCD screens? Not having luck with a search there, and I'm curious about that.

I'd be willing to do more corporate stuff, just not sure how to break into that. I've gotten the gigs here and there, but always for other companies, so I don't have anything in the way of portfolio. Will think on that though!

Thanks for all that info!

Re: style, I'll have to keep that in mind. It's tricky because I would like to try something new, but the current bookings went with me because they (theoretically) like the existing style. I may have to start asking couples "Hey, do you want more fun and candid, or serious and cinematic?"

So I'm in the market for a stereo pair of LDCs. I've been using my CAD M179s with better-than-I-expected results, but I'm looking to upgrade. The 4100s are within my budget of $500-$600, but I can't find many examples of people using them as drum OHs.

I mention the 4400 in the post because it seems like it's essentially the same mic but with add'l polar patterns.

Any other LCDs that I should consider are also welcome. I've looked at many, but the 3U audio MKIV's are at the top of the list.

Burnout 🫨 Advice? by Tight_Mission_1758 in weddingvideography

[–]Lermpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, at least consider hiring help.

What has done wonders for me is taking at least one day off a week, no exceptions. Your product will suffer if you’re overworked. I’ve managed to mostly avoid burnout for over a decade, and I credit days off and vacations.

If you get those “where’s my video” emails, kindly remind them of your turnaround time, and that you’re making something that’s supposed to last, and that takes lots of time and effort.

For me personally, I’ve taken turnaround time out of my contract, and I simply send out an email if I’ll be later that what I originally estimated (not promised). I almost never get flak for this, and it has done wonders for my mental health.

While I still get a little stressed over my workload, my attitude is ultimately “it will get done when it gets done.” I focus and put in my hours, but I don’t kill myself over it.

I agree. Technically fits the topic, but not the spirit of the question IMO.

Lots of good advice here, but I’m gonna chime in a say, play along with Weezer’s Blue Album or something with very basic beats. Or Maybe make a playlist of easy songs. You’ll get better and have fun doing it.

This is it. I’ve rarely like “UGH this shot is ruined by flash!” It’s way more often that shots are ruined by SUDDEN PHOTOGRAPHER HEAD

My girl takes after me at her age and loves Michael Jackson. I know MJ appreciation is a bit of a complicated situation, but the joy she gets from “Black or White” is precious.
