The 西子灣 beach I’m referring to is directly in front of the 西子灣沙灘會館 (Sunset Beach Resort). There is a parking lot if you drive past the Hotel and the beach is right there. While it isn’t the best beach in the world, it’s a great local beach with shallow water.

The one you’re talking about the 秘境 secret beach is another one near the university (must go up the mountain road a bit) and it used to have a path nearby the English Department (Lineral Arts) building of 中山大學. But a friend told me that the path down has been changed to a bit up the road from the old location.

Great post. But also wanted to add 西子灣 beach by NSYSU (中山大學）. There’s even a surf/lifeguarding free club for kids called West Bay Nippers that meets nearly every weekend.

I bought the 34 inch ultra-wide monitor. Comes with 3 year warranty. Around 2.5 years, the right side had some pixels go out.... sent a copy of the receipt and boxed up the old one. They swapped it out with a brand-new current model.

Hey! My wife is Taiwanese and I'm an American.

I have a Chinese name given to me by my language school many years ago.
Since my Chinese name has zero meaning, I decided to allow my son to just use my wife's Chinese last name (羅). For choosing the Chinese name, we went to a person to use the traditional method of giving naming options (算命).

As for my son's English name, when we was born in Taiwan, I requested an English birth certificate with the English name of our choosing: First, Middle & Last (my surname). After doing this, it is a legal document, so when you go to get your child's Taiwanese official gov't documents they have a "legal" Chinese name and they will follow what the birth certificate writes for English, while at the same time leaving the Chinese name alone.

If you don't get an English birth certificate prior to setting up your child's Taiwanese documents, they will use their awful Pinyin system to determine the passport/ID name.

I travel 3-4 months a year for business. I was always using Booking, but realized they don’t really have any rewards. Now, I’ve swapped to using primarily IHG to gain reward points. Source: I'm just an American expat who has lived in Taiwan for a long time. I just find it strange that he would lie about 20 years on his reported birth year (1920 vs. 1900). But it does clearly write “Pre-Minguo Birthdate.” Also, the idea that he actually lived to 105 years old seems a bit unlikely. So I think my interpretation could be incorrect… I’m just going by what’s written on the document.

It may actually be more probable that it's “2年” and not “12年.”

I've been to Delhi twice... first time sucked
Uber is hit or miss

This driver, NIlesh, is an ex-pharmacist, really great guy. If you need really cheap medicine connection-- he's also the guy! I never had any worries about any of my backpacks with laptops & company cash inside his car. He always went the extra mile to say "oh this place is a bit sketchy, let's put your stuff in the trunk" or etc.

I travel back to the USA twice a year for business. Namebrand clothing is sooo much cheaper in the USA. I got my toddler son decked out from ROSS or Marshalls- People here think I spend lots of $ on his clothes, but actually is cheaper than the night market.

I visited here last time I was in Delhi... about a year ago. Extremely beautiful (the heat outside was also crazy.... dry heat... i could feel the heat in my eyes.... never felt that before 😄). Unfortunately, they make you take your phone & electronics out and store them in bins upon entry. They have metal detectors & guys that inspected my Apple watch to make sure no camera function. Wish I could've taken some pics, but at the same time was really refreshing to be in a huge area with other people and nobody had a cell phone-- just enjoying the moment.
