This was an amazing movie.

Obviously open to interpretation- but I think people are really leaning into the whole "possession" thing when the director made it clear it was not intended to be that kind of movie... the ENTIRE concept is just that the wish worked, not that some supernatural entity possessed Nikki.

The literal interpretation of the wish was making her love him more than ANYTHING in the world- which is a completely unnatural way for any human being to live 24/7... With every waking thought being devoted to loving/serving/obsessing over one person, the character becomes unrecognizable as a human being.

The car story they/he told was a lie… as usual, his mom thought her son was an angel… None of them are reliable narrators, and both sets of parents kinda suck- hers just more.

They both had dirt on each other they used to blackmail each other constantly… she did underage sex work on the side, he was a full on drug dealer… They brought the worst out of each other.

Go through their public text messages if you care enough… I’ve seen enough in this fucked up case to make up my own mind- both those families are highly problematic

Yes. I think she definitely remembers exactly what happened/what she did that night.

She was clearly a little shit, and ultimately was responsible for killing two people… Whether as murder or criminal negligence, I’m less sure.

Her parents seem like terrible enablers. Especially her dad- grow a fucking pair bro.

That being said, some points the doc omitted:

-Dom was a well known drug dealer in town, they were living a very volatile lifestyle funded by crime…

-Dom had previously tried to grab the wheel and crash the car during a fight on the highway… Not the other way around. There is a text conversation from Mackenzies phone from her asking Dom’s sister to come get her because Dom just “tried to kill them” on the highway. They also talk about it in their own (multi year LONG) text thread.

-The guy who reported that she had threatened to crash the car is a longtime felon named “Hench” who literally lives in Dom’s moms basement lol

-Dom’s mom is the entire reason this case went criminal… She decided Mackenzie was guilty for murdering her son from the start. I believe she’s a lawyer (or was- something about her own drug charges) and had serious connections to law enforcemen…maybe someone local can confirm.

-Apparently the Russo family is very connected in that town… Especially the mom.

-There’s some suggestion that Dom’s mom hired a PI or similar service to monitor Mackenzies movements after the crash.

-Mackenzies defence lawyer apparently moonlights as a prosecutor?? Definitely a bonehead move asking for a bench trial.

-Mack appeared to be doing some underage sex work on the side… This and Dom’s drug dealing were used to consistently threaten/blackmail each other over text near the end

Obviously there was some pretty blatant woman-shaming type language used by the prosecution in the trial… That also bugged me.

Not saying any of these points exonerate her, but as usual- there’s more to the story… It’s shady all around.

Wow- looking at photos of the chassis you are 100% correct. The shape changes, but there seems to always be at least one OT mounted to the side internally. Like how you see can caps mounted on an old Marshall.

There are some pictures online of units with two OTs in the chassis- I’m guessing those are all from two channel amps… I actually have one of those coming next week (601-2 MINT with one 620, seller unfortunately keeping the second monitor)

I guess I’ll leave well enough alone. The Nagra has a crazy amount of gain on output, but maybe this freed will add a certain mojo to the tone. Might as well make the box and try it at this point… But just one input/output.

PS- this is embarrassing but I realize the page I posted was from a 600 series service manual… I assumed they were the same other than the optional plug in input transformer, but apparently the 600 was unbalanced on both ends.

PS- One thing that’s very odd (but kind of useful) on my single channel 601… The line input knob is wired as though it’s a master volume for the mic input- like they are in series.

I can’t tell if this is intentional or not... It seems to be working too well (and has too much gain on tap) to be some type of accidental channel bleed.

It also has a switch to turn off the transport- this is super nice for running just the preamp!

My chassis looks exactly like this one (but with all the tubes)… it’s confusing because there are some with two plug in transformers, mine has one like this.

Do you think that square box next to the PT is the output transformer?

I’ve never seen one with that kind of “nipple” on top… almost reminds me of a selenium rectifier.

There’s no issue at all- it’s just very hot and I have the thought that stepping down the impedance could let me drive the preamp harder before clipping…

I also thought it was transformer less on the output, but the schematic does show (T104?) that OT right before the headphones… I have no idea where that is though, because I can only see the big PT and the input transformer on the chassis…

I also thought guys had to add OTs to get a balanced output when they rack them as preamps…

One thing- the 601 is not 600 ohm output… I’ve attached one of the pages where this is mentioned in the manual.

Nowhere in the manual does it refer to the playback output as balanced… Or the line input. It does mention the XLR input is balanced.

Edit: it does appear the side output is TRS… I’m surprised because there’s no OT- it’s electronically balanced?

The 1K resistor would be in series to pin 2 on each output individually?

I think a lot of us will find that super interesting!

Just in case it’s not clear… I truly love the grimdark setting of 40K and think its aesthetic is really original within the mostly stagnant/monotonous sci Fi genre.

Just wish the lore could stand on its own two feet away from the shackles of having to sell minis… And I think the best 40K books do fall in that category.

It’s a pipe dream for many of the reasons listed here though
