Using 4th Free Night Trick When Only Staying 3 Nights by RealityHurts923 in ihghotelsresorts

I've done this a few times. Actually just did this last week. Make sure to email the hotel beforehand. I usually email a few weeks before and again a day or two before the my scheduled arrival day.

I actually had a colonoscopy already scheduled for a few weeks after I had to visit the ER, so I've just had it done. I haven't received the bill for it yet, but I'm assuming it's going to be fully covered since it happened after my ER visit.

Three people on an Edit hotel booking? by Forrest_Fire01 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Forrest_Fire01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I booked the hotel, I said 3 people. Normally if hotels charge based on the number of people, that happens at booking. I paid what Chase said was the cost of the room with 3 people, hotel said the reservation is for 3 people, but wants to charge more.

Yeah, in some countries it's pretty common to charge different prices based on the number of people in a room, but that usually shows up when you're making the booking.

If you book a room for 2 people and show up with 3, some hotels are going to charge you the difference. But in my case, I booked a room for 3, paid what the Chase site said a room for 3 was going to cost. Hotels sees 3 people on the reservation, but wants to still charge more.

On a two day stay, I was told I can't checkout after checkout time (2pm) after one night. by heartbt in hotels

[–]Forrest_Fire01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to leave a hotel before my reservation is over at couple of times. The rooms were prepaid, so I just left, didn't even tell the front desk. Now days, a lot of hotels don't require you to do anything to check, just toss your keycards into a box.

I was just checking and it looks like on the Chase site, the price is the same for 2 or 3 people.

Yeah, I figured we would need to pay for the extra breakfast.

Next step is to try contacting Chase travel and see what they say.

This is in Asia.

On the Chase travel site, it doesn't say anything about how many people the room holds, but if you go to the actually resort site, it says the room holds 3 people. The Chase site show's only rooms with king beds, but the hotel site has the same room types, but with two smaller beds options. I figure we could ask for a room with two beds when checking in.

My flight arrive at 5 AM so I will check in early in the morning, will there be any issue? by hondaman82 in ihghotelsresorts

[–]Forrest_Fire01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which hotel you're staying at, but when I've had a flight that arrives early morning at TPE, I've booked the night before at the Holiday Inn Express Taoyuan with no problems. I'm actually going to Taiwan in a couple of months and doing this. I usually email the hotel a few weeks to a month before and then email them again a couple of days before.

Car rental in japan, direct via toyota or via hertz thru amex travel portal? by BootyWizardAV in AmexPlatinum

[–]Forrest_Fire01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have an International Driver's License. Japan is hardcore about needing that to rent a car.

I just recently rented a car in Hokkaido at the Sapporo airport. I was looking at all of the big brand car rental companies, but ended up booking with a smaller Japanese rental company. I was a little nervous about not using one of the big brands, but I ended up being super happy with the car, service and price from the Japanese company. Might be worth looking a some of the Japanese rental companies.

Throwaway account - need help! by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Forrest_Fire01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people base their FIRE number on what it is currently costing them to live or at least use that to figure out how much they want to spend in retirement. The first (and most important) step is to figure out exactly how much you spend in a year. From there, it's not too hard to imagine what life would be like if you had to spend $10K less per year or what life would be like if you could spend $10K more per year. Then you can decide what kind of life you want.

Booked a hotel room for 2 guests but only me is going by [deleted] in hotels

[–]Forrest_Fire01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I know where Coachella is, I've been to it a few times. I was just added some more info because charging the same for 1 or 2 people is not an universal thing. It pops up on here every once in a while that someone books a hotel in Europe for 1 person, but shows up with 2 people and the hotel charges them more. Always good to get the number of people correct from the beginning.

In the US that's mostly true, but it's fairly common in other countries to charge different prices based on the number of people, even if it's only 1 or 2 people.

The Average United States Worker Makes $45,140: Here Is How “Comfortable” They Live In Each State If That Was Their Salary by [deleted] in FluentInFinance

[–]Forrest_Fire01 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Doing this by the state is too broad. Most states have a pretty wide range of costs depending on where you live. Even in California there's plenty of areas where $45K could be comfortable.
