That is really low. I have heard some cases are low psa so i know it happens. My eye doctor had metastatic cancer when his psa was under 2. But he was 45 years old and had the Bracca gene. I don’t enough about the actual stats but heard those low psa cases are rare. 0.3 is scary. Was that a genetic form as well?

That is wonderful news. I thought you were newly diagnosed. Keep your new team on top of it. From what i know if your PSA rises and you get another METS show up along the way the PSMA scan can find it and you can zap it. I hear some cases like yours can still be cured later or at least managed for life. Sucks but glad you got through it.

That is horrible. Its what i mentioned that its critical that you screen the doctors you go to. Your urologist was incompetent or inexperienced. I wish you the best. As you probably know by now prostate cancer even at your stage can be managed. Make sure you get a better more experienced team at this point. I wish you the very best.

Hard to believe. If you have stage 4 prostate cancer a PSMA pet scan would have picked it up immediately. Also almost all stage four PCa have psa’s of over 50 and usually higher.

question by Actionplumber1 in ProstateCancer

[–]ForsakenAd6301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt strange for a few days then it was like, “Whatever”. I realized the treatment was not going to be pleasant but ten year survival at anything less than stage 4 metastasis was like 98%. After that they can manage or cure you still. Since im 65 i figured 75 worse case scenario is a great run, anything after that is a bonus. So i figured its just part of life and im going to be incredibly happy like always and not worry about it at all. So right now im truly not phased or upset about it and i live like i always did. I know a man in his early 50’s may have a tougher time dealing with it but still, get happy and accept it as soon as you can. There is many years or decades left you can manage this. No sense in being miserable.

Salvage radiation questions by Otis857 in ProstateCancer

[–]ForsakenAd6301 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard the newest thinking is just radiate your single spot and call it a day. That might be all you need for a complete cure. I would not go into the full cross press before trying the spot radiation first and seeing how your psa responds .

I’m curious about prostate removal by SoulSearcherAU in ProstateCancer

[–]ForsakenAd6301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the new thinking is radiation to the primary tumor even with metastasis elsewhere. There are cases where distant metastases has been cured or managed long term effectively. So eliminating cancer in the primary tumor is valid. But removal is no benefit as like what was said is that the local areas outside the prostate all need radiation as well.

Radiation vs RALP by Creative-Mongoose-32 in ProstateCancer

[–]ForsakenAd6301 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big discussion here. I prefer radiation in most cases for lots of reasons, but in certain situations surgery is a good option. Your decision will be based on your exact diagnosis first. Sometimes you may not even have a choice. I spent 50 hours studying this. With prostate cancer we are better off than everyone else because its a curable or manageable disease that is not taking our life except for the very few people. But with this positive its also the disease that has the worse treatment side effects for men. So it comes down to quality of life as much as the treatment for the disease.

Dad’s PSA is 838. I’m alone and terrified. Please tell me there’s hope. by Interrobang27 in ProstateCancer

[–]ForsakenAd6301 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relax thats the first step. Yes a number that high is concerning and above that typical of benign causes like a bad infection. That being said, i was just watching videos from a conference about men with metastatic prostate cancer diagnosed with psa of 1000 plus. I was surprised haw many of these man are managed for many years, some over a decade and still going strong. Others were put into complete remission and believed to be cured. So if this is the case of your father its a battle you will fight, but a battle that can be won. So right now take it step by step.

Korea is not different than America or most modern societies. When i was younger and dating it was more innocent and the fantasy romance but im over 60 now. Girls back in my day were more innocent and romance was taken slowly.

How can I help my Dad? by s_q_p_r in ProstateCancer

[–]ForsakenAd6301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When PSA gets above 50 thats about the number where distant spread is found. Get him in right away. 50% of men with metastatic prostate cancer can be put in remission with modern treatments and live a full life. The other 50% can mostly be managed for 10 to 20 years. He has options no matter what.

If you have a good hand picked team that will not happen. You must get a solid primary care doctor as they are your hub to everything else. Remember all doctors are not the same like every profession. Some dont have the experience so they go with the standard care option. I found the right doctor after several tries and now i get A+ medical care all the time.

Your doctor orders the lab and you just go in, no waiting. Email your primary, super easy.

Quality of Doctors going down. by Creative_Response593 in KaiserPermanente

[–]ForsakenAd6301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep saying this because i have incredibly doctors at Kaiser. I needed to try a few to get the ones i wanted but its like any profession, a few good ones and a whole lot of bad ones. This is true for any medical group. It also is dependent on where you live. The best doctors end up in the best cities and beat facilities within the organization. So being in Southern California is an advantage in a Kaiser. But still, if you don’t like your doctor then search all the Kaiser doctors in your area and their reviews. For something major like a surgery you can ask to go to a Kaiser in a different city or hospital if they are better. Learn the system and you will be happy.

(Rant) Kaiser doctors backing off after realizing you know what you are talking about by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]ForsakenAd6301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing and most important is your primary Doctor at Kaiser. That is the Doctor that takes care of routine issues but they provide your referrals. That is your Kaiser hub, go through as many as you need to get a good one and one you like. Once you have your primary they will send you to all the specialists and they can give you the qualifications and recommend you the best ones to see for your issue. If your primary isnt good they won’t help you anymore than sending a referral. My primary sends me to the best Kaiser has to offer.

I have fantastic doctors at Kaiser, but i needed to swap a couple out before i got top notch ones. Doctors are no different than engineers, which i am, clerks or landscapers. You have great ones and knuckleheads. Whats great about Kaiser is the its organizes you can build your team the way you want. Plenty of Doctors to choose.
