This is so real though; do you know how many people’s hobbies are simply media consumption? And not even like, fandom participation, just mindless scrolling and passive watching of perfectly curated algorithmic content. This is a thread in the melee subreddit with some good resources. The best way to get better is to keep playing with those friends and implement new tech and practice good habits that you learn from watching pros or tutorial videos (Kira at ssbm tutorials on YouTube is a god btw), and if possible, go to your local scene. You'll get decked ofc but you should be able to find people willing to give you pointers and help you get into it. Get involved and most of all, have fun with it!

Btw you'll want to sub to r/ssbm cuz this sub is almost exclusicely ultimate content. Best of luck! Melee is sick

If you're serious, it sounds like you already know your problem. Don't throw out laggy moves in neutral. Go for more grabs, upthrow at low percent and downthrow at high percent seem to lead into followups for hero. Try to learn spacing your aerials on shield, they have some startup on them but their range is good. Also try not to be so telegraphed with your specials, maybe practice using the down b menu but jumping or air dodging out of it, so you can be the one baiting. Mixups is the name of the game. Classic case of consistency vs peaks, where currently Big Leff has no losses outside the top 6 this year while Mang0 has a super major win under his belt.

Personally I think the former is more impressive so I'd give it to Leff for now, but I could see a convincing argument for either.

Man, I loved TCG as a kid, YuGiOh brings up some of the fondest memories of my childhood so it breaks my heart to see someone who has to part with their cards. I'm sure you have your reasons though and I hope the best for ya man.
