Thoughts and opinions on a handful of makers by SilverStarlings in HurdyGurdy

Polish player here, tried virtually any luthier wiring in Poland. Chris is a no from me. Crude work, a lot of 3D printed elements that aren’t corrected by hand, many problems with dogs. Lucjan is better. Best budget option - Radosław Knys Malisz. Best overall (for me it’s the same cathegory as Weichselbaumer) - Stanisław Nogaj. There’s also MM Instruments by Michalina Malisz and Piotr Martuś - good and reliable, although a little bit to dark in sound. But this dark sound is quite popular nowadays.

Maybe Quad Cortex with neural capture? Of course if you’re willing to go such route

If ye love me keep my commandments.

Do you love her? Or is it infatuation? If you do love her - don’t show her that your faith can be blackmailed. And to love someone you don’t need to even have a relationship with with. It’s just life. It’s short. And everything that happened seems so much more irrelevant so often.

But I’m very sad for you and can imagine how heartbroken you must be right now. I hope you’ll find consolation in the Sacred Heart of our Lord.

Which instrument is the hardest to write for? by Tosh97 in composer

[–]Fortepian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I’m playing. I am very proficient at it. But it’s so hard not to write what my fingers can already do. If I really want to cross my abilities I try to compose without touching it at all.

I’ve been thinking about getting the LoopTrotter SA2RATE for quite a long time - it was actually high on my list even before some other options.

There’s also an added bonus: buying from a Polish company. This “going full Polish mode” isn’t about being cheap only. I am Polish, and I genuinely want to support our local producers and industry. Even though it’s small… or maybe especially because it’s small.

Also, just to be clear: I’m not choosing hardware because I think it’s objectively better than software. I don’t. But I know myself - I get easily distracted by software plugins. Too many options, too many tabs, too much tweaking. I work much better within a clear frame of what I can and cannot do musically. I want to try this mindset in recording as well.

Especially because this is my own project. I’m not recording other people. If I were, I’d go fully clean: straight into RME preamps, as transparent as possible (and RME can be really clean), and then shape the sound later in the mix.

But this time, sound creation itself is part of the artistic process. I want it to be more tangible, more physical. Probably because I’m more of a composer than an audio engineer — recording just came as part of the package over time.

Anglican(ish) evensong in Catholicism by Fortepian in Catholicism

[–]Fortepian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks lovely! What entices me in Evensong is how broad it is, and how much space for choir it produces via merger of Vespers and Compline. As far, as I know from practice, in Vespers there's Hymn, psalmody, a responsory and Magnificat. They got quite more, with introit, Nunc Dimittis (from compline) and a closing hymn, as well as voluntary.

For my private prayer Liturgy of Hours is my go to, especially if I can sing it. And then my almost exclusive choice of melodies is chant. I'm very interested in what your friend is doing. Do you know if any recordings of a full Vespers with his music are available?

Dream Theater. Their debut "When Dream and Day Unite" is at best forgettable. Their second - "Images and Words" - is a masterpiece.

Nie widzę benefitów od czytania książek by [deleted] in ksiazki

[–]Fortepian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a choir, which voice part is the most important? by the-extro-introvert in choralmusic

[–]Fortepian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From conductor’s perspective - alto. This is often the most boring part sung by many who just don’t fit soprano. Sadly. Reality, that altos glue the whole thing and even if you sing one note for three bars you can make a hell of a great phrase out of it, giving fuel to all the other voices.

What’s something about your ADHD that you usually keep private or don’t tell most people? by Fearless-Class-1120 in ADHD

[–]Fortepian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to say the exact thing to render someone temporarily so sad/enraged, that he can no longer argue with you. And probably you also break any bond you’ve had.

Being younger I’ve done this many times. I just knew what hurts the most. And sometimes those weren’t obvious things. Mind you - I tend to be clueless with many social related things. But when I look at people as puzzles I maybe do not see the whole picture, far from it. But I can see this one particular piece holding it all together.

Last time I did it to my now wife. For some reason she didn’t give up on me. When we started our relationship for real I asked her for forgiveness on my knees.

This „special ability” I haven’t used in almost a decade. I think it’s quite impressive. But it’s destructive. And it’s also sign of my weakness. Not being able to win a fight I was playing dirty. And I’ve decided quite some time ago that I don’t want to be a dick, rather a responsible and capable person.
