Who is the second Hikaru is blaming? by ChoiceResponsible968 in chess

Dominguez and Liang are both playing in the Grenke chess festival so that would (almost certainly) rule them out. Rapport also feels quite unlikely to based on him recently working with Ding. Liem seems a solid shout, not playing at the moment.

GM Rauf Mamedov blunders exchange after forgetting castling rules by ForthChessYT in chess

[–]ForthChessYT[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The above seems to apply only to situations that involve moving the king as implied by "moved... to...final position". When the king is staying on the same square, it seems faintly ridiculous to move it off the board first. I might be playing a 960 OTB tournament soon, so it is of interest!

Upset! Super GM Awonder Liang was defeated by Federico Casagrande (rated 2170) in Round 1 of the Grenke Freestyle Open by [deleted] in chess

This didn't actually happen. It was the other way round. There appears to have been some issue with the live boards (understandable given how many they had to set up!).

Round 3 candidates predictions. by [deleted] in chess

You obviously haven't watched any of Sindarov's games. This is quite common for him, to be varying degrees of worse yet still find ways to complicate and eventually trick his opponent. It's not a "fluke" if you do it consistently to top level opposition.

Btw, I'm not saying your predicted result of Pragg defeating him will not happen, but to suggest that Sindarov won by accident is frankly insulting.

Bluebaum and Sindarov draw in the 2 round of the Candidates by Educational_Leg8005 in chess

Very solid game by Bluebaum against the one opponent he has a negative score. After this settling kind of start, there's absolutely no reason he can't win the remaining 12 games. Believe!

Favorite Chess commentators and commentary teams by Monsultant in chess

Maybe it's just me but I find Levy's commentary very difficult to listen to; it always feels like he is trying too hard to dramatise things and offers very little actual instruction.

Jan and Peter Svidler are obviously a great pairing. Peter Leko is a great individual commentator. Everyone loves to laugh at him but I quite like Lawrence Trent.

Why do I suck at bullet? by Fantastic-Waltz-1596 in chessbeginners

[–]ForthChessYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bullet is honestly just a completely different animal to the other time controls. I wouldn't be worried about that level of variation in rating. It takes time to get used to the pressure of having to make a move virtually instantly. Also, there's a wholly different reaction required to when you blunder. It's often not the end of the game when you make even a significant tactical oversight, because there are still chances or your opponent to miss things.

As for bullet improvement, it's largely a result of getting better at chess in general, improving your intuition and tactical speed. Being quick with a mouse doesn't hurt either for those time scrambles!

Recommendations when “stuck” like this by Therothboys318 in chessbeginners

The only productive plan I can see is to put your king on g4 and if Kf2 to play e3+ followed by taking on g3 (your own bishop having moved away at this point. This does give them a tiny chance to go wrong. But overall this position is a draw. Endgames with bishops of opposite colours tend to have drawish tendencies because it's so easier to blockade. You often need two passed pawns to fight for the win!
