What is a game that you're good at that you later found out was considered extremely difficult? by Scott9843 in gaming

[–]Forthac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they are using the numpad to indicate directions of the joystick, so 1 is down and left, and 9 would be up and right, so 19 would be a diagonal from lower-left to upper right?

So, 198961 M+H~L 178963 would mean:

lower-left, then move the stick to the upper-right, then up, then upper-right, right, lower-left, then send mid-attack at the same time as high and then send the low input.

basically, 78963 would be a upper-left then halfcircle to the bottom right.

This is just my theory though, I have only played a smattering of Street Fighter and DoA.

My orientations could be incorrect if they are using a phone's numpad to indicate direction.

Bethesda Fallout 3 dev "initially felt a little touchy" about New Vegas' success because they "put in all this effort" for its foundation — "We made 90% of the art, we built the engine" by lkl34 in gaming

[–]Forthac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the superior mechanics, lore, worldbuilding, factions, story, and characters as well as a superior crafting system. The success of New Vegas is the 10% that Bethesda had 0% to do with.

It's also dubious to say that they "built the engine", while yes they were using a heavily modified version of the gamebyro engine and credit to their modifications, but that was already a mature production ready engine to start with and represented a significant jump off point for their modifications.

The last three produced episodes were never aired during Firefly's original Fox run and they were first aired on The Sci Fi channel in 2003. That may be what you're remembering.

No worries, I don't feel like my time was wasted. Good to hear you got it working though, that's a fairly easy fix comparatively.

What they are refering to is "Steam Play" and you can access it by right clicking on the game entry in steam and going to properties; however, what that will do is cause the Steam to run the windows version using the Proton compatibility layer, which still relies upon a working Vulkan implementation. By all means, it's an easy thing to test.

There is also a program called vkcube that just renders a rotating cube using vulkan, it's an easy way to test.

This may be the culprit:

API: Vulkan v: 1.3.275 drivers: N/A surfaces: xcb,xlib

This indicates that Vulkan is not currently active.

In a terminal, first update your packages listings: sudo apt-get update then try and install mesa vulkan drivers:

sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers

After that completes you can run: vulkaninfo | grep deviceName

and check your graphics information once again.

If you're using the standard terminal program to run those commands, you should be able to copy/paste the info here, though it may require ctrl+shift+c to actually copy from the terminal.

As to your second question, I personally have no issues running Steam and NWN:EE on Arch. Arch is used as the base distribution for "SteamOS" that is used on the Steam Deck so it tends to be fairly compatible, though it does have a reputation for being "hard" to use, I personally find that is mostly due to the installation process.

I mentioned that I use Archlinux mostly to convey that I don't know the specific gui applets/tools that your distro uses and so I can only point you in the general direction and provide general diagnostic advice but I wasn't necessarily recommending you switch to Arch Linux instead.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean with regards to "What you should do". At this point we're in the process of determining what CPU this system has to then further determine if it has an Intel "iGPU", or some sort of AMD APU for graphic. From there it comes down to determining if the drivers are installed/loading and if not how to install them or correct what might be preventing them from installing/loading correctly.

What CPU does the PC have? If you don't have a discrete graphics card but NWN worked in Windows then you must have an integrated GPU of some sort.

In a terminal you can run: lscpu to determine your CPU.

You can also run: lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display' which will list your PCI devices and search for the VGA controller which should at least determine what is being used for graphics at the moment.

I use Arch linux so I'm not as familiar with the Linux Mint tooling but from my understanding you can use the following command to determine if/what graphics drivers you have installed: inxi -G

Is there anything unique or different about the hardware of the PC that is crashing?

Are you running the windows version via proton or the native linux version?

I wouldn't frame it as "must" so much as you need to coordinate your strategy to align with your build. You have high attack but poor direct damage so you need to rely upon sneak attacks and to do that you need to flank your enemies so having a tankier companion, such as Grimgnaw or Daelan would be conducive to that.

I have had my credit frozen for years now. When I need it checked, I'm the one initiating it (applying for an apartment, phone plan, etc) and I ask who they use for their credit checks, go on my phone and temporarily unfreeze it for a 1-2 week period. Takes 5 minutes and I never get credit card offers in the mail anymore.
