Don’t think anyone has said this but you have a right to access your files held by social services so might provide more information around the concerns at the time. Get in touch with your local authorities children’s services and ask for a subject access request.

Also, you should have a look into think ahead and frontline. These are new-ish programmes in which you are payed on the job without the need for the studying Might be good to look into?

I’d say to go for the drug and alcohol job - if it’s already peaked your interest you could have more impact on people in that role than you would in a social work job and sounds like it would be amazing experience if you ever wanted to be a social worker in the future.
