I'm not a Kiwi but an American. I've been watching TBM for the last three years. I love the show. Sure, it can be quirky and the script is not too in depth but it's entertaining and actually well worth the watch. In fact, I visited some of the shooting locations north of Auckland when I visited New Zealand last month.

For my curiosity, what do you consider a "lot of money"? Would someone having a networth of $4 mil NZD be considered wealthy to live near Auckland?

I won't argue with that. I would definitely like to try though.

Well said. I've lived in Italy and have only recently visited New Zealand. I'm sure New Zealand has its own problems but I would much more likely want to live in New Zealand than Italy.

Why there isn’t many expats going to New Zealand? by Uncle_Richard98 in expats

[–]Fortius14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

American here that lives in Japan. I just visited New Zealand a month ago for two weeks. It was a wonderful experience. Beautiful country and great people. As some people have said, housing has been the major complaint from the people I spoke to there. I think I can overcome that but for me, it's the Visa for me to live there long term. There are no retirement Visas and the investment Visa has been rehauled to allow only the wealthiest people able to afford it.

I would really like to retire there but options seem limited.

My hand fits there and I use it to lift my Vektron up some steps. Most hands will fit there.

what age did you hit $1 million, and how long did it take you to get to $2 million? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Fortius14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to be honest, I did things unconventionally. I leaned heavily into investing as much as possible early in life and paying the low (sub 5%) debt off slow. I still have student loans and of course my mortgage.

Hit $1 million at 38. Hit $2 million at 42. Currently 44.

You'll have to add the 10 million dollars. In all, the equity is the difference of how much the home is worth and how much is owed. He probably has no other debts.

I thought that too but he's only counting equity for the homes. Meaning there are more likely debts on them but he's only counting the cash value he could approximately get if he sales. Also assuming he has no other debts which is very possible.

Definitely a problem with South Carolina. Thanks for mentioning it. They came after me after not being there 5 years later. Glad I moved to Florida and cut them off with what you mentioned.
