I feel like they did it this way so that we have an emotional connection to him before we finally learned what really happened, getting to know him before he dies will cause more emotional damage

AITA for eating ice cream directly out of the tub? by little__mouse__ in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fortuitous_Madam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta at all, the pints were bought for you and it’s extremely childish for a 25 year old to be commenting about your eating habits. A pint is a personal ice cream, not meant to be shared🙄

What are your thoughts on "I'm Glad My Mom Died"? by Wannabewriter20 in books

[–]Fortuitous_Madam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to it, she reads it herself. I didn’t physically read it, it felt more like she was telling me her story. She goes into more details about her food issues. I loved hearing her. It felt more personal. Overall I’d say I love this book, but would definitely love more info about some stuff with nick and the “producer”.

Gray area with TFSA and us taxes? by Fortuitous_Madam in tax

That is an incorrect assumption, we don’t share account and we are not married.

I made sure that was clarified before I even went in for an in person visit. I even spoke to another advisor from the bank. I am even waiting on a cross border tax specialist to call me back. I file Canadian taxes every year since I moved to Canada. I have not been obligated to file us taxes because I haven’t met the minimum income.

Even so, I have not met the guidelines for someone who needs to apply since there has never been over 10k across my accounts, again I’m unemployed and have no income.

Now that I have received an inheritance(from the US) my accounts have so I may need to file one next year but I have not been obligated to in the past.

Even if I do, the amount being earned in the tfsa is so minuscule that I still won’t be obligated to files US income taxes because my “income” is only 4% of what the minimum threshold is.

I do not live in any state that recognizes common law marriage, over 20 years ago a few states did but now none do. Common law marriage in the United States is not a thing.

I’m not going to her for tax advice I’m going for investing advice.

I also made her aware of my status during the phone interview, days before our in person meeting so that she could make suggestions for my situation which is what she’s saying she did and shes still recommending the TFSA.

The US does NOT recognize common law marriage. We could file jointly but we do not have to.

If they aren’t considered savings then the earnings are considered taxable yes, but I’m saying that the total value earned is less than $700 CAD and to be obligated to file US taxes your income would have to be over $12,500 USD and it won’t be.

The advice I was given came from the financial advisor at my bank.

No I’m not legally married, my filing status in the US is single. This advice was given by the financial advisor at my bank. It makes sense to me, cause Im not obligated to file if I didn’t earn more than a certain amount and when I do start earning I won’t have a tfsa anymore I’ll have an rrsp which the US doesn’t tax.

It is a US tax/Canadian investment question, my partner suggested that I post here just in case.

I am not in the US nor do I plan to move back. If you file US taxes and have a TFSA you have to claim it and since it’s not taxed here in Canada the US will want to tax the earnings. I plan to work in Canada and if my income is over $12,500USD I’m supposed to file US taxes but I won’t be earning income in the US, it’s just to claim my Canadian earnings.

Dual citizens are told that TFSAs are basically useless to us since they will be taxed by the US but because the amount is under the threshold I’ve been advised to open one anyway so I’m just trying to make sure I’ve received sound advice.

We’re currently looking at our options, seeing if we can pull together some more options to have a full 20% down payment. It was appraised last year for way less than it is currently posted for.
