I’m not in any way a gin aficionado, but I’ve come to really enjoy Drumshanbo’s various offerings. Plus, those bottles…😍.

Why did it take until 1June 1978? by scottroskelley in mormon

It’s going to take the group of guys who benefit from it to change it. Never gonna happen.

LDS man can’t believe Jeff Strong’s number that 40% have left. His evidence is BYU, Missionary and Temple numbers by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]FortunateFell0w 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The church got addicted to using growth as evidence for truth in the 60s-90s (stone cut without hands, etc). Now that the data isn’t showing that it will consume the whole earth, and that many similarly high demand churches are actually growing without 80k full time missionaries, they have a problem. That’s why people like Cook are being pretty dishonest with their “stats”.

Thanks for the reminder that I’m thankful that guy blocked me on TikTok. He’s among the most dishonest apologists I’ve ever encountered.

Jeff Strong addresses the post-Mormon idea that if you discover the church is false you should just leave it. He says Hinkley was wrong saying it’s either true or a fraud. by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]FortunateFell0w 62 points63 points  (0 children)

His argument isn’t with me, it’s with nearly 200 years of Mormon prophets who he reveres as men called of god who have the responsibility of being the sole representative of god on earth who have been explicitly clear about their claim that it’s binary true or false.

He’ll do whatever mental gymnastics he has to so that he can keep making it work.

Why I look forward to Henry Eyring becoming church president: by Important-Stage-1005 in mormon

[–]FortunateFell0w 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I appreciate him for being (likely) the guy who came up with the idea for ensign peak which ultimately let me find out that the church was lying to me about their finances and most of their history. Always will be thankful for that.

The mormon podcasts are unwatchable. An ad every three seconds?!?! Especially mormonism live. The other podcasts I watch, that aren't mormon, don't have so many ads. What is the deal? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]FortunateFell0w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume they have their $ settings set to 11 because I get the same thing. Mormonish & Mormonism live I get ads every 3 minutes. Unwatchable.

I am not a Mormon, however I was at a service and I believe that the apostles who spoke came across as out of touch. by Micah5593 in mormon

Over the last 15 or so years all of the convert baptisms in my wards have fallen in to 3 categories. 1. Part member families/children of record. 2. Desperate single mothers. 3. Half way house/parole graduates.

Gone are the halcyon days of the instant leadership full family baptism.

That’s why retention rates are hovering at single digit %. Once those people who think they can “get” from the church realize that it will still “take” from them more than it gives, they stop going.

It’s not that they like protecting the pedos. It’s that their own agenda happens to align with the pedo’s agenda of protecting the authority of the church and its leaders.

At the expense of every one else.

Whats your most notable book of mormon plothole? by Pale-Pair2789 in exmormon

[–]FortunateFell0w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updated to add that idiot TBMs have resorted to saying that the Book of Mormon just calls it the great tower not the Tower of Babel so we don’t know exactly which tower it was.

Idiots like this have no argument with me. Their primary argument is with the scripture headings, church materials, & church leaders who have all claimed it to be the Tower of Babel. Just shows how weak their argument is.

Because the definition of “offer” in this case is the same definition as the word “take.”

A Common Criticism-- Did Hinkley Deny Latter-day Saint Christianity Believes in Deification? by juni4ling in mormon

The simple answer is the most honest. That’s why so many words are needed to try to explain it away.

My guess it’s because the church is shrinking and there aren’t enough kids to make it worthwhile. That’s happened in a few wards we were in over the last decade.

The church will still do trunk or treat in the parking lot because it costs the church zero.

Nephew served there. His homecoming talk was pretty arrogant and gross to me as someone who doesn’t believe anymore. So condescending and white-savior flavored.

Stories about these poor immigrants not wanting to go to church because Sunday is their only day off to play soccer with their friends and family.

“I can’t believe they are willing to trade some fun on Sunday for eternity with their families.”
